meat and beans, claiming the medication softens food during cooking.
It sounds bizarre, but people have been discussing this practice on social media for some time now, and no one has flagged it.
Earlier this year, we became curious about these claims and collected samples of cooked meat and beans from several eateries for laboratory testing. The findings raised concerns about the presence of paracetamol and other compounds requiring further investigation.
The bigger problem is that nobody seems to be regulating this practice. And no one is educating the public on the dangers.
Paracetamol is designed for medical use, not food preparation. Misuse can cause serious liver damage, and cooking should never be assumed to neutralise the medication or eliminate potential risks from its degradation products.
Think about it: you order a plate of meat believing you are simply buying lunch, yet you could be unknowingly consuming medication.
How many Kenyans are aware that this practice may be happening in some of the places where they eat? This is dangerous and must stop.

Most often I tell them “that’s likely because people with disabilities can’t use your web site.”

Following their introduction to Romania in the late 1970s, Kent Cigarettes grew in popularity due to them being used as a rather foolproof bribe in the domestic market of the Communist country. However, as Romania slipped into an economic crisis and the living conditions for people became increasingly dire, the cigarettes were withdrawn from circulation and only officially sold in hard currency shops which were out of bounds for most Romanians. However, the black market was in full boom and inflated prices for these cigarettes flourished. Smoking cigarettes, however, was not the primary reason for obtaining them....
In 1980s Romania, an unopened pack of American cigarettes was worth more than money. Behind the display windows of state-run grocery stores in Bucharest, shelves stood desolate, lined with nothing more than jars of pickled cucumbers and industrial vinegar. Nicolae Ceaușescu’s communist regime had plunged the country into forced austerity to pay off eleven billion dollars in foreign debt, rationing bread, meat, electricity, and heating. Yet in hospital corridors, auto repair garages, and municipal offices, an unofficial economic lifeline emerged that completely bypassed the national currency, the leu. It was the white-and-blue pack of Kent cigarettes. In a society where holding foreign cash meant years in prison and domestic banknotes bought virtually nothing, an American tobacco brand became the most trusted currency in the republic.
The cigarette economy was the direct result of a financial trap engineered by the state. Under Decree 210 of 1977, private possession of Western hard currency—such as US dollars or West German marks—was strictly criminalized for ordinary Romanians, carrying sentences of up to ten years. Meanwhile, domestic banknotes had lost their meaning. Central planners fixed the prices of consumer goods, but because virtually all food and manufacturing were exported to harvest foreign exchange, store shelves were bare. Having a wallet full of Romanian lei could not buy meat, warm clothing, or a car battery if none existed on the market. In this vacuum, citizens required a substitute currency that was portable, durable, and universally trusted. Western tobacco had originally been imported for foreign tourists in state-run Comturist shops. While brands like Marlboro were familiar, Kent—specifically the white pack with the Micronite filter—captured the country, transforming from a luxury smoke into an indispensable parallel currency.
In daily life, Kent functioned with the precision of a central bank. A single pack acted as a small bill, while a carton of ten packs—known as a cartuș—served as a major banknote. Crucially, almost no one actually smoked them. Lighting a Kent was considered an act of financial madness, the equivalent of burning cash. Instead, citizens smoked harsh domestic brands like Carpați, preserving their Kent packs strictly for transactional leverage. The cigarettes unlocked services that official money could never secure. In freezing hospitals where penicillin and sterile needles were scarce, slipping a pack of Kent into a nurse’s pocket guaranteed clean bedsheets or pain relief, while handing several cartons to a surgeon ensured an urgent operation. Outside the clinic, a carton of Kent secured a mechanic's labor to replace a broken Dacia alternator, persuaded a butcher to retrieve meat from a locked back room, or convinced a housing clerk to expedite an apartment transfer.

Had an "interview" for a blockchain project last week.
Camera was on, we're chatting, and the guy tells me to clone a GitHub repo and run it locally before we go further into the technical round.
I said sure, but first can you do me a favor
hold up 3 fingers in front of your face for me real quick.
He froze.
Didn't move.
Just sat there for a few seconds before the call cut off and he blocked me.
That's when I knew. A real interviewer doesn't glitch out over a random ask like that. A deepfake/AI overlay does.
These "run this repo" scams are getting scary common in crypto and dev hiring right now.
The setup is always the same:
- flattering DM
- real-sounding project
- rushed timeline
- a "quick step" before the call
that's really just remote access or a credential stealer in disguise.
If someone wants you to run code or install something before you've even had a real conversation, that's the whole scam.
Trust the instinct. Stay safe out there.

Just had the creepiest scam ever happen 20 minutes ago.
I got a call from my wife telling me she forgot her wallet and needed the credit card to pay for her gas.
Except my wife was at home with me, and drives a Tesla. Same voice, bit... off, weird cadence but 100% sounded just like her. If she wasn't there, and it wasn't about gas I would have fallen for it.
I entertained it for awhile to get more out of it, I was so confused. Must be some sort of voice deepfake. The responses were too fast for ai, I think it was a voice filter. I wish I had thought to record it.
The future is about to get fucked. Warn your loved ones, do verbal passwords with your kids.
Bit taken aback

🦆 A courier in Warsaw caught a wild duck — locals had to step in
The scene was filmed in Mokotów. According to the woman who recorded it, the migrant had caught the bird and appeared to be planning to take it away.
In the end, local residents intervened, and a man with a German shepherd helped make sure the duck was released.
Was that a delivery or someone's dinner?....
