I just want Democrats in Brooklyn to focus on: 1. Housing 2. Education 3. Crime Those three things impact everything else. ie cheaper rent, higher paying jobs, or less theft would make all prices less of an issue.

people are reading this weirdly. Obama is an arch-opportunist, hes explaining why he feels that Biden failed and Mamdani succeeded. This does not make sense to the people who bought Biden's deliverism (he did create a competitive inflation rate) or Mamdani's deliverism (that hes just filling potholes and not doing political struggle/narrativization).

Former President Obama says Democrats made a mistake by making goals materialistic and instrumental: "What people are starved for at the moment is the ability to tell a moral and ethical story about how we live together in this moment."

What does "having solidarity" mean in this context? Feeling pity for? Engaging in symbolic action allegedly in support of? Realistically speaking, a vanguard devoted to filling potholes may be more radical. Symbolic resistance accomplishes little, but there are many potholes.

If the Trump administration attempts military occupation over Israel, that makes it clear he is an enemy, and maybe it’ll teach the socialists to have solidarity with the forces that are actually inviting state repression, maybe you will have some understanding that the vanguard is not who fills the most potholes but the masses that are actually in struggle with the state. Every single citizen of Minneapolis is braver and more revolutionary than anyone who thinks like this, and they prove time and time again that this attitude is purely voluntary and not determined
