Once upon a time, in 2014, Nintendo took hard losses. Their president Satoru Iwata cut his own pay by 50%. Legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto willingly took a 30% cut. Other board members also cut their pay by 20%. They did this to avoid firing staff. This is leadership.

"a + b", this one line of Python code executes thousands of lines of C behind the scenes. My latest article explains what goes on in the CPython runtime to execute this seemingly simple operation. You will learn about: - Dynamic dispatch implementation in CPython - What is the abstract object interface in CPython and its role in dynamic dispatch - What is the PyTypeObject struct and its role in the CPython runtime - How the various types in CPython implement operators and make them available to the runtime for dynamic dispatch to work. - And, look inside the implementation of the float type to understand this more concretely. The article includes 13 annotated code listings from CPython with all the explanations. Check it out: open.techwriters.info/codeco…
The next article in the CPython internals series is ready (pending edits). It stands at 1800 words & 13 annotated code listings. All that just to explain, what goes on when you run `a + b` in Python. Coming soon to the subscribers of Confessions of a code Addict (link in bio).

I want more games set in a single small location that you end up intimately familiar with by the end. Clever re-use of areas, gating and world events keeping it feeling fresh.

I think it’s more the absolute Irony of this take. None of us streamers are in any moral position/nor are we Spielberging our content here. Streamers are cam models, we just exploit a different emotion.
Crazy that this is a “hot take” these days. It’s literally a personal choice. Keep spamming your links in the comments everywhere, no one buying that shit

you are more capable than you could ever believe. you are able to do things you think are impossible. you are immensely powerful if you allow yourself to be. you are alive, you are never alone.

Today, it’s plausible to make things 10x-100x faster with a single optimization/refactoring. Code today is so bloated and slow. Godbolt’s Law was fine 20 years ago, but hasn’t aged well.
I just had reason to quote Godbolt's Law - "if any single optimisation makes a routine run two or more times faster, then you’ve broken the code." Re: @mattgodbolt xania.org/200504/godbolt's-l…

Inner join ECS is a really nice data structure too, but you have to remember that one data structure and one algorithm is just a tiny fraction of the whole computer science. It’s good for some things and bad for others. If all you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

there's a point where most consumers move from "oh i get what's going on here" to "oh this looks 100% real, but 5 months from now it will look incredibly basic", and the difference between the two is about a billion dollars in development cost

The beginnings of some sort of concept art. I want to start posting more in-progress stuff because if I wait for it to be done I'll never finish.

But rather then rejecting this entirely, I want to flip it on it’s head. To meditate on its implications by Making you the ‘normal’ the ‘unimportant’ in a world of magic.
