walker is a rescue pitty saved from the euth list at downey animal care 🩶 he is such a good boy. i truly tear up just thinking about what a sweet and misunderstood pup he is 🥺 walker was an owner surrender at the shelter. while there he was labeled “rescue-only”, meaning only a partnered 501c3 org could save him. at the time of his surrender, his old owner said walker bit his teenage daughters hand when she was giving him chicken. we don’t know these dogs histories. it’s impossible to completely understand their past lives and all the intricacies of specific situations. something about walker really hit home. he looked so sad and defeated. he was not showing well in his kennel due to stress, and he had lost a bunch of weight. we ended up taking a chance on him and are so glad we did, bc he’s an incredible dog. he actually is partially blind. you can imagine how a shelter and sudden changes would be extra confusing for him. he’s has always been extremely gentle with me, bc he is my little bestie. his overall demeanor is super sweet, mellow, happy, and lowkey. he does have some triggers involving unknown people, and males, specifically when he feels “cornered” though he’s gotten much better over time. he is the type of dog that bonds so much to his handler. he really connected with me right off the bat which is very sweet 🥹 we love him so much are so happy he is here today. seeing him carefree, and loving life means everything 🫶 #pitbull #pitbulllove #adoptdontshop #rescuedog #shelterdog

🎀 hi nala! 👋😍 - a little about nala’s health issues. basically she’s got a whole lot of liver inflammation. the vet says it’s secondary inflammation, meaning that it’s a reaction to something else happening in her body. we have been doing tests and trying to sort out the reason behind it so she can feel and show up every day as her very best self! nala deserves the world! we truly love this precious beautiful girl more than words can say. all we want is for her to healthy and happy. 😊 nala is staying with us for the time being. she arrived late monday evening 🫶 having her over for a mini staycation is like having rainbows, sunshine, and unicorns surround you at all times. she’s literally truly MAGICAL! 🦄 🌈 ✨💖 🌷she loves to🌷: 🛌☀️ lounge on her dog bed in the sun 🥾🌲explore (she’s not over the top active- in fact, she’s a great middle ground) 🏡💖 be at home (or surrounded by) her people she’s easy. happy. simple. even our “spiciest” 🌶️ dogs here can’t get enough of nala, which always makes me laugh. we have some feisty 😈(yet incredible 🤪) girls that are not a fan of any other females on-site. but nala? somehow she gets a VIP hall pass 🏆🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 she’s the dog everyone loves. just a fan favorite all around. 🥰💯 she is only here temporarily, and will be headed back home 🏡 soon, so we are soaking up every possible moment of nala while we can! 🩷🩵 #staycation #sleepover #pitbulllove #pitbullmom #rescuedoglove #californiadogs #sanctuary #dogrescue #rescuedog #shelterdog #bullybreed #dogoftheday #goodgirl #vetcare #glowup #pitty

for a couple months, we couldn’t seem to locate 5x10 retriever kennels at any tractor supply throughout CA. the closest in stock option was in vegas. we actually almost had some kennels shipped from that location. we were happy to see that the kennels were back in stock this past wknd in southern california. but… these kennels are a tad bit different than the older retriever model, which apparently won’t be sold anymore. the new models have silver hardware vs gold and the kennel door opens on the right side, instead of the left. these kennels don’t have a thick horizontal steel bar around the circumference of the kennel anymore. (you know the steel bar that divides the individual panels into halves? does that even make sense what i’m trying to explain? 😝) IMO, the steel bar seemed to reinforce the side panels, esp if you have a dog that likes to stand on their paws and lean into the panels (*cough cough* MINNIE *cough*)😝 i hope that these retriever kennels will be sturdy and durable. we have loved using the last retriever models for our rescue dogs. i looked up reviews on Tractor Supply’s website and there are a lot of people saying the new models don’t compare in quality at all to the last ones. hearing that is a bit of a bummer, but we will see how it goes. only time will tell. we will start by putting a calm, chill dog in there. one that won’t be trying to lean up against the bars when they are excited. now we will add a pitched roof, turf, dog bed and a dog house, that way they have an extra comfy, cozy den to sleep inside if they’d like. please check out our wishlist if you’re ever interested in helping add some comfort or enrichment to the outdoor kennels for the rescue dogs! we keep the dogs active and busy throughout the day, but tbh they are pretty lazy when they aren’t running around. they 💗LOVE💗 to chill in their outdoor kennels during the day when it’s down time 😴 toys and chews are especially favored by the pups during these times. it’s nice for the dogs to have goodies to keep them preoccupied. #pitbull #tractorsupply #dogrescue #rescuedog #dogkennel #retrieverdogkennel #retrieverkennel #rescuedogs #pitbullmom #pitbulllove #bullybreed #fosteringsaveslives #cottagelife #doghouse

he is in an outdoor kennel during the day that is secluded in a way where dogs cannot run up & bombard him. essentially he’s in his own “quarantine” area to be safe while at the start of his healing journey. he’s got skin issues plus a cough, which is almost fully gone. it’s his 2nd official “full day” out of the shelter. he loves to sit under our legs, & look up at us. looking for reassurance, & to protect. he is big. 85 lbs at his current weight. he’s skin and bones, really. his waist is so tiny. he must feel so weak, & not like himself. he’s determined to heal & has that warrior spirit. you can tell. we are still interacting with, and walking, other dogs in front of him (from a distance) because that’s just the routine. he isn’t the happiest about seeing us with other dogs... but he has gotten much better in less than 48 hrs which is great. he’s learning quickly. he is smart. (he has to be with that big massive head lol) seeing the other dogs from afar helps him understand that he’s not the only dog. over time it will become something he just accepts. we will make adjustments accordingly down the line as we get to know more of his real personality. the other dogs know he is here, but because we are creating that “distance”, they aren’t really given much of an opportunity to care too much about him. right now everyone is just co-existing separately, getting to understand that there is a new face around. the dogs are all processing it as they do. as a sidenote, millie is the only adoptable good girl who is allowed to roam off-leash right now on property, which says a lot about how cool of a dog she is. she is extremely lowkey & super nonchalant. sally and minnie are the best, but they are curious, & persistent. they would charge up to zeus’ kennel if given the opportunity, no questions. right now that’s not what we want. it could create feelings of animosity that will linger. it’s so important to ease into things so so slowly. to introduce dogs to “new” things one step at a time. the last thing we want is for zeus or any dog to feel uncomfortable. right now, taking it easy is key. #xlbully #rescuedog #pitbull #dogrescue #newrescue #medicaldog #skincare #tranformation #glowup #secondchances

such a cute boy, with the biggest head!! 🤎🐶 zeus is so strong. we had a big pile of randomly sized concrete chunks that we stacked along the bottom side of the kennel, so there’s no possibility of him moving it. 😆 for now it does the job. most important thing is it works and keeps him safe. this is zeus’ chill spot during the day. he gets to lay in the sun on his dog bed. no dogs are able to come up to see him right now which is what we want while he is healing. he’s very gentle with me (and also my dad). just a really sweet boy overall. some health hurdles to tackle but he is a champ, and we will make it through, stronger on the other side! 💪 #dogrescue #xlbully #rescuedog #bullybreed #pitbull
