On the back of which #SMT @ScotMortgage_UK has just announced that this Zipline up valuation results in a more than doubling in the value of its stake (to 3.8% of NAV up from 1.8%). Demonstrating at a stroke of the pen why investment trusts with private capital exposure such as SMT are very attractive vehicles for retail investors to get hard to access exposure to high growth private companies. Gold’s post-FOMC rate-hike recovery suggests the move was fully priced, while Warsh’s attempt to stabilise the bond market - arguably a key reason for hiking - has so far been relatively successful, helped by the sharp pullback in oil prices and the resulting easing of inflation concerns. It is also impressive to see gold ETF holdings climb to a seven-month high, despite the recent price wobble, highlighting a market where demand from less interest-rate-sensitive investors remains firm despite elevated yields. Next up is the resistance area mentioned in my earlier post, which should help determine whether this recovery has further room to run. Back from travelling on Monday, when I will take a closer look.
