Here, we introduce a topological approach that reframes physiological brain recordings as a time-varying geometric structure. By quantifying changes in its shape via persistent homology, we extract robust biomarkers that identify seizure onset and end in real time.
Natural dynamical systems often exhibit abrupt, critical transitions. A classic example is the onset of an epileptic seizure, where the brain’s activity abruptly shifts into hypersynchrony. However, detecting this transition in raw neurophysiological data remains a challenge.
