the best endorsement I can give for meditation is:
before meditating, my heart was totally full of hate, and it was increasing
after 8 years of meditation, my heart is only moderately full of hate, and it is decreasing
When I began actually doing things I wanted to do and making things nice for myself it was the beginning of self-trust developing. I feel like safety and self-trust come from taking good care of oneself. Before I was whipping myself to work in some way all the time.
it is sooooooo important for people (and i hate it that i have to specify this, but i do mean people of ALL genders) to stay connected to their desires! and to do that, they need to practice doing what they want and not doing what they don’t want. this is why i encourage attendees at my vibecamp workshops to just get up and leave if they’re not enjoying it. because otherwise i would be unknowingly and unintentionally holding them hostage in something they are not consenting to. if you don’t like something, say so! or leave! or whatever you need to do to inhabit your own authenticity. this applies to attending events and going on dates and eating cake that someone brought into work. doing things you don’t want to do out of politeness or fawning is bad for everyone. we all owe it to ourselves and to each other to respect our own and everyone else’s desires. (which does not mean that everyone gets what they want, just that they are allowed to want it.)
I only managed to make it there once but it was really good vibes! And Mary was very forthcoming to accomodate me.
i just did an audit of my business. in the past year i gave out $3176 in sliding scale discounts (~$265/month) in classes, workshops or coaching. but i got $5030 in donations ($419/month). that’s $154/month in donations that COULD be going to people who need the sliding scale but isnt. also, i offered 12 classes/workshops. 2 were cancelled due to lack of enrollment. the average number of participants was just over 2 in each (ranging between 1 and 4).
the classes are great, even with very few people in them but i think they could be even better with a few more. (i’m still limiting them to a maximum of 10.) everyone contributes their own beautiful unique perspective and makes us all richer for being there.
i know there are people out there who would like to do some coaching or a class with me but feel like they can’t afford it. i hope you will look at these numbers and see that you are welcome and wanted and whatever burden you think you would be bringing by not paying the full amount has already been shouldered.

Equanimity is characterised by acceptance of what's taking place.
Valence (positive and negative) comes about via comparison. Feeling good = sense that this is getting better (or not worse). Feeling bad = sense that this is getting worse (or not better). And those comparisons don't have to be all inclusive, but are bundles of small comparisons on many dimensions, hence why most positions are mixed valence.
Insight into dependent origination (that things come about according to the conditions that give rise to them) leads to equanimity because the deeper we get it the more it reduces comparison. The more we understand how unique every moment is, and why something other for someone else at another time is different (because it has different conditions), then it makes less and less sense to judge two moments from one another. You are where/how you are in this moment because of the conditions that bring about this moment, and if anything were even slightly different then this moment would be different and not this moment (sounds cliché I know but is really profound)
This is a process of levelling valence gradients and developing more equanimity.

Perhaps the only quote I keep coming back to,

I think any spiritual practice that points you away from self-responsibility is absurd. Anything that takes you away from becoming someone who is in this world and this reality, caring for others and actively loving the world around them is not worthwhile. You’re the conduit between the heavens and the earth. You’re not just a spirit or just a body. You’re both. Act like it.
