UPDATE on the Cornell incident: As reported by ABC, newly released texts between Jane Doe and Male #1 from 4 days after the incident (several weeks before police report) demonstrate that she told him "everyone needs to grow up cause sexuality and sex and s---is changing and stuff like this is going to become more common, I'm also really open minded tho, I love you king." A couple weeks later, but still before she made a police report, the young man told her that he was concerned he'd been "labeled an assaulter" and she responded "I haven't said anything but I do know people are changing the narrative because like in any sexual scenario w one woman and many men the woman was probably the victim." While these texts do not conclusively prove she was not legally raped, they substantially strengthen the supposition that Jane Doe changed her story, and possibly genuinely changed her perception of what happened, as a result of being publicly shamed for having sex with many men or whatever was happening in her relationship with Male #1. The most important point though, is that destroying people's lives based on allegations to police, in a lawsuit, or elsewhere is extremely dangerous. It is exactly why civilized societies should not engage in the modern equivalent of witch trials, and people should decline to rush to judgment. The way this story has changed over mere days is a near perfect lesson in why we shouldn't call for people's heads simply because disturbing accusations have been made. Of course, no one will actually learn anything and nothing will change, regardless of how many times this sort of thing happens, because apparently as a nation, we are incapable of actual progress. I intend not to comment on this case again absent extraordinary developments, because my primary interest is not in determining one way or the other what happened, but in urging people to resist the temptation to engage in mob justice to the point law enforcement officers are acting at the public's direction. I believe that point has been made, although of course it won't satisfy the bloodthirsty.

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s former press secretary Iuliia Mendel gave an interview to Tucker Carlson, an American conservative political commentator. In this video, the Kyiv Independent’s Nastia Kasinchuk breaks down all the false claims that Mendel said in her one-and-a-half hour long interview, including the mobilization law in Ukraine, the freedom of speech and her claims about Zelensky himself.

I understand gun violence. I visit my daughter at the cemetery because of it. I understand the level of evil and depravity that can cause someone to target others. Since my daughter was murdered in the Parkland school shooting, I have truly hoped for outrage from the right over school and other public shootings. I wanted to work with them to reduce it. IT NEVER HAPPENED. The level of outrage from them now over the Kirk shooting while ignoring the newest school shooting that happened at around the same time is unfortunate. However, it also seems that they are using this outrage to incite more violence and targeting Democrats and those who disagree with them. The idea that those who participated in January 6th, cheered the Paul Pelosi beating, cheered the effort to kidnap and kill Governor Whitmer, and who were silent last month when Minnesota lawmakers were killed and targeted at their homes are only outraged about political violence and gun violence now would be funny if it wasn't so tragic and sad. As long as hate and evil exists, as long as we remain unable to talk to one another, and as long as we jump to demonize the other side combined with unfettered and easy access to guns, I fear this violence affecting children, parents, neighborhoods, and yes Democrats and Republicans will continue.

Welch: As someone who lives in a red state, let me just tell you what MAGA supermajorities get you. We're 50th in education. The worst in the whole country for women to live. We're poorer, worst health care. And if you look at the bottom ten states, they are all MAGA supermajorities. These policies hurt people. They use people's faith to lure them in and say, oh, we're family values. But then they don't vote to help women have children. They don't vote for health care. They don't vote for child care. They demean the poor.

Just let this sink in for a minute.
Liz Cheney on Donald Trump: “While the attack was happening, he was handed a note. The note said…a civilian had been shot…He put it on the table in front of him, and he continued to watch the attack…That’s depravity. And that person can never be near the Oval Office again.”

Listen to Talia Khan. Imagine what the reaction to her experiences would be if she were from another minority group.
"This is the same climate of antisemitism that has led to the massacre of Jews throughout the centuries. This is not just harassment. This is our lives on the line." @MIT student Talia Khan highlights the rise of antisemitism at MIT.

Good thought. Geraldine Fitzgerald was a great SM at Williamstown directed by Tom Moore; and Bettye Fitzpatrick wonderful in Jose Quintero’s beautiful production.

I’m a mother of six, and a Mormon. I have a good understanding of arguments surrounding abortion, religious and otherwise. I've been listening to men grandstand about women's reproductive rights, and I'm convinced men actually have zero interest in stopping abortion. Here's why…
