Something pretty wild is happening in the financial world of banking... Which bank is the largest in the Eurozone? Any sensible mind would say BNP. But the guys at the ICB have decided that BNP is not a bank anymore... Which would kick out BNP of all bank indexes!

Vanguard took in >5x more cash than any other ETF issuer in January. On a net basis they account for 87% YTD flows. When it comes to fund industry market share, bull markets are good for Vgrd but bear markets are great.

New note out today: Instead of launching the 28th actively mgd "future tech" ETF (zzzz), Goldman should have done an ETF of their "non-profitable tech" basket. It's well known, tracks and has outperformed $ARKK and the name is novel in that it openly ack the risk of the strategy.

Like ESG, the boom in private markets is driven not by the interests of consumers / society / stakeholders / blah etc, but rather by large chunks of the financial industry having had their once-very substantial lunches eaten by passive providers
Why fund managers like private markets.locked up capital and high fees. Hooray! #didyouknowyousaidthatoutloud?

This is impressive. When the new UK ambassador @MennaRawlings takes up her post in Paris soon, Britain will have female ambassadors in Beijing, Berlin, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Washington DC and Tokyo (among many others)
Replying to @MennaRawlings
Delighted to be the next UK 🇬🇧 Ambassador to France 🇫🇷, the first woman in this role. Look forward to taking the baton from @EdLlewellynFCDO this summer, and working with the brilliant @UKinFrance team.

NEW: Luxembourg has been a haven for financial crime for decades. Now, a corporate registry obtained by @LeMondefr, and shared with OCCRP, reveals how global elites used companies in the tiny nation to operate in the shadows. This is #OpenLux (thread): occrp.org/en/openlux/

Remember, fund managers launch new products not because they think they'll make good #Investments but because they know that lots of people will buy them. Suggest you give this one a very wide berth. #ETFs #Trading #Investing

Much of the $GME narrative is around the idea of the little guy "sticking it to the man." But please let's not forget that the late Jack Bogle created an entire SYSTEM for doing just that. It's called buying (and holding) index funds.

Shiny Objects had a big month in January. Here's ETF flows broken down by expense ratio. Dirt cheap (under 20bps, which normally takes in over 70% of flows) took in less than half as the 61-80bps lane had biggest month ever w $16b. Half that is ARK, other half is (mostly) themes.
