Apropos of nothing I remember the part in Dante where he says that some sinners are so heinous that their souls get pulled into Hell before their bodies die, leaving behind literally soulless corpses still living on Earth

Nothing to worry about here...Just 12 degrees above normal water temps off the coast of South America.

A major piece of privilege is the privilege to ignore collapse just a little bit longer.

We are watching the same mistake again. Build something huge, ignore the environmental cost and scale it as fast as possible because billions are at stake. The billionaires get richer while ordinary people pay the price.
AI data centres are consuming enormous amounts of electricity and driving up demand. The people making billions won’t be the ones dealing with higher bills, polluted air, extreme heat, water shortages and climate damage. They make the money. We get the fucking consequences.

This is now getting absurdly serious with the El Niño. The latest OSTIA SST data now has a peak anomaly of 8.1C above normal, with Peru reporting a peak SSTA of 9.5C. What's more concerning is that these anomalies are only going to increase over the next 10+ days, as the latest ECMWF forecast is predicting a peak of 12.5C right off the coast of Peru.
As I said earlier, this is setting up to be the most impactful El Niño since record-keeping began in 1950. Also can't wait for the new C3S model ensemble to come out by around September 10th, as I'm sure the wet signal across the west & south will be bonkers.
Local health departments in North Carolina have evaluated hundreds of people for rabies after they interacted with baby goats that were part of a mobile petting zoo, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. cnn.it/4iN08BR

“We’ve established five working groups on affordability.”
What @RepJeffries told me the House agenda will be next year if Democrats win control in the 2026 midterms:
—Reverse Trump’s Medicaid cuts
—Extend expired ACA tax credits
—Restore Congress’s authority on tariffs
—“Decisively” end the Iran war
Beyond that: “We’ve established five working groups on affordability.”
