The @metpoliceuk apology for the inherent homophobia, racism and sexism rings very hollow in my house. 22 years ago I was queer bashed for protecting a gay couple from a vicious group of young bigots. The police deliberately buried my case in spite of my injuries.

A true hero to LGBTQ+ people, thank you Paul.
Nothing was done. My poor mother even wrote to Tony Blair in sheer desperation and received a sympathetic but useless reply. Years later, the Met took out full page ads in the gay press trumpeting their LGBTQ division. I called them and even they fobbed me off.
“Oh, you could have got compensation for your injuries. Shame you’re too late”. As I sit here with the scar of my nose that got split and broken across my face, pardon me if I don’t believe the sincerity apology offered today. You did that @metpoliceuk
