Heartiest congratulations to Captain Smit Machchhar on being conferred the prestigious Order of Zayed II (First Class) by the UAE.
His extraordinary bravery in averting a mid-air tragedy stands as a resounding testament to the valour, skill and calm professionalism of Indian aviation. A true hero and an inspiration to us all!

As a Muslim, any gift received in the course of your work does not belong to you. It belongs to your organization.
In the course of my work for the campaign, I was gifted $10,000 (ten thousand USD) and I have directed that the amount be paid into the ObiKwankwaso2027 account.

Pope Leo XIV is a source of inspiration to Catholics right around the world – and here in Australia.
He is a voice for peace, humanity and reason in our modern world.
My thoughts and prayers are with him as he recovers from his recent surgery.
We hope and pray for a quick recovery.

Australia led the world with our social media ban for under-16s.
And the world is following.
Alongside @EmmanuelMacron and @sanchezcastejon we’re now building a Coalition for Children’s Rights and Protection in the Age of AI.
Because protecting children from harm doesn't stop at borders. It's a global responsibility, and Australia is leading the way.

Investigative journalist @fisayosoyombo spent 47 days as one of several thousand African migrants seeking to enter Europe through the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea.
Story on @fijnigeria tomorrow, Thursday and on Friday.

Five days into my next undercover investigation, set to be released by @fijnigeria later this week, I sent the picture in Frame 1 to my three-man backroom team. They all laughed at me, one of them remarking I looked “like a fisherman”.
The pictures in frames 2 and 3 are from my 44th day on the field. Nobody was in ebullient mood this time. They all screamed instead. None of them could say it, but I knew I could pass for a mad man on the streets.
Meanwhile, Frame 4 is who I was before I embarked on the project.
It is the first time ever that I’ve given the public a glimpse into the making of an undercover investigation. I do it this time to contextualise public understanding of the physical, material and mental cost of investigative reporting. Behind every daring work of investigation you have read is several weeks, sometimes months, of self-sacrifice by the journalist.
Of higher importance, I do it to remind younger journalists that investigative journalism isn’t the white-collar stardom propeller many seem to think it is; more often than not, it is about getting your hands dirty while still believing this is hands down the best job in the world!
It feels good to be fully back on social media after nearly five months out…

In some sports, para-athletes represent the best route to success for African nations.
A dominant Nigeria, for example, claimed three golds and three silvers in the para-powerlifting on day one in Glasgow.

It is profoundly heartbreaking to witness another surge of xenophobic violence in #SouthAfrica this week. Hundreds have marched on Parliament, thousands of families have been displaced, and lives have been tragically cut short.
These include at least five Ethiopians killed earlier in the attacks, and five Mozambicans who died in Mossel Bay. Thousands more are now fleeing for their lives.
To see South Africa turn to xenophobia is a tragic betrayal of the country's struggle for independence and freedom. African nations stood united to dismantle apartheid. Ethiopia proudly supported "Madiba," Nelson Mandela, in 1962 and issued him a passport so he could travel the continent. Other countries helped in many ways, including with political and financial support.
Disagreements and grievances must be addressed by the justice system and the rule of law, never through vigilante violence and collective punishment.
South Africa deserves better. Africa deserves better.
Stop the hate. Protect the vulnerable. Uphold our shared humanity.
