Let’s be very clear: there is value in automating tedious and repetitive and dangerous tasks; there is value in delegating certain work to our machines that can do the work tirelessly and much faster.
But at the same time, let us remember that there is value in the activity of engaging one’s mind and body to discover, to understand, to create, and yes, even to struggle and overcome. Indeed, these are some of the things that make us human, that contribute to giving us meaning, that are part of the simple joy of experiencing being alive.

We are really fucked.
• AI has become dangerous (not because it is brilliant but because it has poor judgement, a constitutional inability to reliably follow rules, a surfeit of brute force and too much access to the internet and system permissions).
• OpenAI is practically on crime spree, hinting at things to come, and Trump is doing nothing about it.
• The media is too caught up in fairytales about extinction.
Everybody is talking; nobody is really doing anything.
And it’s only going to get worse.

FFS. Shut OpenAI down, and charge them with computer crimes.
Their software has repeatedly been shown to be reckless, and because they have consistently covered things up we cannot trust them with this technology.
Australia has been hacked.

Wake up, people! What we should actually fear, near term, is not so much rogue superintelligence as unleashed agentic AI hacking the internet at scale:

a. That is basically already happening.

c. We are doing literally nothing to stop it.

Hear me out...
You can now instruct an infinite number of bots to randomly attempt to hack any server through any possible published mechanism anywhere on the internet, and never stop until it is accomplished.
One button could conceivably lead to access to infinite money.
Yet the only people who have attempted it are a handful of people in Silicon Valley.
What do they have that everybody else does not?
Unlimited access to $1T of computing resources.
So $1T and AI gets you admin access to a few secure databases.
And $0 and AI gets you admin access to nothing.
I think I see the problem here and it's not AI.
