"I don’t actually feel drained after the right kind of social interaction. At the end of a spiritual direction session going deep with a client, I feel enlivened. Same is true if I’m at a social event and end up in an intense one-on-one conversation. What drains me, actually, are small talk and unregulated group talk: shallow socializing that’s all about reading social cues, trying to think of things to say, and competing to talk with more socially aggressive speakers." Hi friends and followers, please consider subscribing to my Substack. philfoxrose.substack.com It’s where I’m focusing my writing and the main way I’m developing my ideas around contemplative practice and a contemplative posture toward life. My intention is that it will lead to a book at some point, but as is said, a Substack is like a book that never ends. I like that idea — an ever-developing text with multiple feedback loops with my readers and friends. That’s always been true of blogs to an extent, but Substack makes it super-easy and is a much richer environment in which to do it. I’m really trying to do something useful with this. Join me!
