Is anyone interested in mobile genetic elements and bacterial defense systems? We have a new preprint online.
Avi Bograd analyzed the genomes of 38,912 bacteria and identified a clear depeltion of all MGE types in plant-associated bacteria vs. non-plant associated bacteria.

Just out in Nature, we reveal a key molecular signature that evolution drew upon to boost photosynthesis—the process responsible for fixing CO2 (and sustaining life as we know it). Together with the brilliant @l_luginbuehl, @JoeEcker, and @jmhibber

Very happy to see @annaliisalaine's & my article out in @ScienceMagazine today! We reveal that the more a plant species invests in defense, the less potential it has for growth. All made possible by lots of public data & amazing open science contributions! science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Thank you all for your responses. To summarize, these are free/open source alternatives for preparation of scientific illustrations: bioicons.com, scidraw.io, bioart.niaid.nih.gov, inkscape.org
Because of annoying complications with the use of images prepared on BioRender @iamscicomm for publication or presentations, our lab will be exploring open-source alternatives like bioicons.com/ or drawing our own images with Illustrator.
