Amid reports of rising wintertime respiratory infections in China - including human metapneumovirus #HMPV - and the impact on the health system there, 🇨🇳 health authorities say the scale and intensity remain lower than around this time a year ago.
@WHO’s China Country Office and Headquarters are receiving updates from China on the situation – and offering support, including tracking pathogens and monitoring changes in strains and variants.
We at @WHO_Europe are sharing, in turn, the information received with our Member States given the importance of transparent and rapid public health communication in our interconnected world.
While health emergency preparedness and response are vital, so is the need to obtain information from reliable, trusted, expert-led sources - to help counter misinformation and disinformation.
Ultimately, the best way to prepare for and prevent any public health risk is to invest in robust health systems and services, including collaborative surveillance.
