You clearly stated and firmly stood behind this statement: 'killing 20,000 children in Gaza is justified' even though I repeatedly reminded you those children are indeed innocent civilians. Civilians targeted daily, deliberately, and intentionally. No doubt about it. I was genuinely shocked you haven't thought this through. Our regional audiences are shocked and in distress over your lack of humility.
I understand this is now crisis management, Gunther, and the record of your stance has been made.
This is something that will not easily be ignored. It's a statement that will probably live with you forever and will mark you as a person and a politician. Times will change, ICC will do its job. International community will accept its failures.
Now, this is what you could do: apologize publicly for your previous statements that are absolutely shocking and shameful and start actively advocating for preservation of life of Gaza's children lives and their basic rights under international laws. Regardless of the fucking regime.
That's the only way to go from here. Saying this in good faith. Think about it.

My comparison is deliberately stark:
HAMAS ≠ Palestinian civilians.
I draw a historical analogy between Hamas and a dictatorship that drags the population under its rule into catastrophic war—and between Palestinian civilians in Gaza and German civilians suffering in Dresden in 1945.
Hamas won the 2006 Palestinian legislative election and took sole control of Gaza by force after fighting Fatah in 2007. On 7 October 2023, Hamas and other armed groups launched the attack on Israel in which civilians were deliberately attacked and hostages were taken.
The point of the comparison is not collective guilt. Palestinian civilians remain civilians and are protected by international humanitarian law.
The argument is about political responsibility: civilians can suffer terribly from wars triggered by the decisions of those governing them.
Historical analogies are never exact. Gaza is not Nazi Germany and Palestinians are not Nazis. But civilian suffering does not by itself answer the separate question of who initiated a war or whether military force against an armed adversary has a lawful basis.

Today marks 45 years since my granddad passed away. To the world, he was a football legend.
To me, he was my grandy.
His legacy was about more than football. It was about people, community, believing something could be better — and having the courage to try to make it happen.
And he never forgot where he came from. Glenbuck was always part of him.
Forty-five years later, that connection is still very much there.
Legacy isn't what we leave behind.
It's what others choose to carry forward.
I hope we can continue to carry a little of his legacy forward.
