Wonderful seeing my dear friend and ex-Astronomer @paolapal00za in the bay this week. @viraj_parekh_ and I are missing the third head of our monster as she works on her new very cool (and soon to be announced!) robotics company

Thank you for your interest in Maximum Effort, @astronomerio! We'll now get back to what we do best: motion pictures with Hugh Jackman, Fastvertising and Wrexham football. We'll leave data workflow automation to ̶G̶w̶y̶n̶e̶t̶h̶ ̶P̶a̶ Astronomer.

Someone just confused me for @bernhardsson at datacouncil so I think we can call this entire thing a success

Exciting day today in our journey from “you can’t start a company like that in the Midwest” to a legit “Cincinnati-founded Unicorn” - backed by the absolute greatest VC firms. The team is fired up to execute from here 🔥 So proud of what we’ve accomplished, and the vision forward – at Dry Run, OH

I should honestly have a counter for how many times I've shared this @bernhardsson blog post in response to questions from new hires in the last 12 months. Ends up being the answer to so many questions... erikbern.com/2020/03/10/neve….

if you want to understand why data lineage is important go try to figure out what notion docs are "latest" at a fast-growing company

Girlfriend works in CPG doing data analysis. It's honestly shocking how gnarly it is to build reports using their legacy system- terrible interface, custom XML query language, 20 minutes to build a lightweight materialized view

To top it all off, they're absolutely locked in with their vendor because they're not only the supplier of the analyst tool, but also handle ingestion of proprietary datasets that they get from longstanding relationships with data suppliers

It's fun to project the democratized SQL future or whatever, but when data production is so closely coupled to exploratory analysis, you're at the whim of whatever shitty tool you're handed. Incredible how much org spend is held hostage in suboptimal process as a result
