In May 2025, a group of investors paid $6 million for Lion Electric’s assets after bankruptcy.
The deal included 70–98 finished or near-finished electric school buses in the yard.....but GET THIS.....
Quebec renewed a subsidy of up to $240,000 per bus to school-transport operators.....AND the new owners were no longer responsible for warranties issued in the USA.
And so, one estimate is that they were able to sell the buses for near $30 million, with about $23 million effectively covered by the provincial subsidies.
$6M to $30M, not bad!
Its everyday now we hear a story of someone finding a way to profit from government subsidies.
