Andy Burnham is facing a Labour revolt from Red Wall MPs over suggestions Britain might rejoin the EU.
The Prime Minister has declared that Britain must grow closer to the bloc, even suggesting it could rejoin after the next general election.
However, Labour backbenchers in Leave-voting areas advised Mr Burnham against a “Brexit Hokey Cokey” and said that ministers “have to accept” the result of the 2016 referendum.
The Red Wall is made up of about 40 traditionally safe Labour seats in the North and the Midlands, most of which voted heavily in favour of Brexit a decade ago.
