These political revisionists praising the economics of Thatcher are shocking, especially given what they’re supposed to represent…
Thatcher was a staunch monetarist, blindly following the theoretical models of radical economist, Milton Friedman to the point of massively and proudly increasing wealth discrepancy between the rich and poor. She aggressively deregulated, privatised and took power from trade unions whilst cutting taxes on the wealthy and woefully neglecting social housing and healthcare. Hers was a philosophy of indifference to the vulnerable, of disdain for the poor and resentment of anyone who disagreed with her draconian outlook.
She underinvested in skill development and directly caused a huge rise in unemployment with her myopic approach to the economy.
I’m old enough to remember how much damage she caused and how her xenophobic intransigence gave rise to the ruthless right wing shit show currently in power.
She also called Nelson Mandela a terrorist.
Do not put her on a pedestal. She is not worthy of that.
