Nice action to start the 2Q for Miami. Clear out a side, and attack the guard with a cross screen for Giannis Good idea for Giannis not to curl as I believe the Nets wanted to jam and recover. Comes out, forces the switch, gets two on the ball

Erik Spoelstra & Giannis, Bam and the Spacing: First Impressions from the 2026-27' Miami Heat I) Grab and Go What do we have here? 3 Baseline spacing, Bam for the relief valve and Dunker spot relocation(or dunker to corner pop), to punish the trapping the box. Also, Miami got a Transition DHO option with Bam Adebayo, as a counter to the Giannis' wall(or Transition Plug) II) Giannis & Bam PnRs Broken Spacing is the key to this 45 PnR. Also, you can see Giannis as a roller, Bam is in the weakside corner for another PnR variation of Heat. III) Inverted Early PnR/Pistol We have to see more examples and more pre-season games, and I got only one clip about that, but this is a first impression video, and I believe, Klay Thompson is really valuable, especially in the open court. Inverted Early actions -screener is Klay- are going to be indispensable for this team.
Erik Spoelstra & 2025-26 Miami Heat Playbook, Part I, No-PnR Transition Before diving into the actions, I just highlight with 2 stats about transition. Last season, Miami led the NBA, with a 5.07 average offensive speed-2nd was 4.88- That pace translated into a 24.9% transition frequency and 32.2 points per game, comfortably beating 2nd team again-23.4%, 30.9 pts. Really impressive. Tomorrow, I'll share the 2nd part, half-court offenses and ATOs of Coach Spo. Let's go! I) C2C II) Transition DHOs III) Feed the Fastbreak Runner b) Overload c) Brush Cut d) Sprint to the Paint/Rim Runner IV) Switch Counter: Early Seal V) Shooter's Match-up as a Fastbreak Runner VI) Early Elbow Touch a) Backdoor b) Relief Spot c) Attack to Defensive Big d) Kick out to Corner e) Short Corner Touch and Open VII) Clear cut for Broken Spacing, 1v1 b) Broken Spacing/Overload c) No Jump from Strongside Corner d) Clear Reject, Exit Continuity VIII) Clear, Barkley b) Feed the Jump IX) Early Punch b) Split c) Laker Cut X) Double Dive XI) Swing, Match-up Hunting b) Feed the Jump XII) Swing, Attack to Defensive Big XIII) Swing Reload XIV) Drag b) Throw and Chase, Ghost c) Early PnR d) Drag, Clyde e) Brush f) Finland XV) Early Spain PnR XVI) Double Drag b) Oklahoma XVII) Empty PnR XVIII) FT Below PnR XIX) Pistol b) Pistol Slip XX) After Free Throw Pistol b) Pistol Keep c) Pistol Flip 77

Rich Paul says he started studying the following for LeBrons next potential team: - Defensive ratings - On ball/help defense from individuals - Offensive schemes - Coaches/team success rate on ATOs “I think as you’re evaluating things it goes all the way down to what has been the history of someone in this position valuing a possession” The Heat check a lot of what Rich is talking about. (Via Game Over)
Rich Paul says he wasn’t expecting his ‘White Board’ to be as big of a deal as it was: “I wanted to give people insight and peak behind the curtain. Here’s the thing, It’s actually pretty cool, you can’t take yourself too serious. This is a fun time for us. It’s an admiration for LJ. You’ll always have the haters out there like those we know who have a microphone that’s never said anything great about LJ. I did not know it would take on the legs that it did. That wasn’t the thing…. You understand there’s no perfect scenario but you gotta dump everything out to help someone make the best decision for themselves.” (Via Game Over)

Darryn Peterson's high school playmaking tells a different story than his year at Kansas. Peterson had 38 assists and 38 turnovers in college, which is not the line you expect from a potential franchise lead guard. Part of it was his off-ball usage. Part of it was a Kansas roster that didn't shoot well. But DP averaged 5.3 assists as a senior at Prolific Prep, and had the ball in his hands the majority of the time. He delivered bounce passes into the paint, whipped cross-court skip passes, and looked the part of a point guard with far more explosiveness off the dribble. If that burst returns in the NBA, he could become an excellent shot-creator. These highlights are a glimpse of it.

Update:
Jalen Brunson struggled shooting in games 1 and 2. But for a player whose scoring is about angles and counters, has he just been feeling the Spurs' defenders out? If history's a predictor - just as he does within games - he'll improve his efficiency as the series goes on.

Pretty funny possession when you look at what the Spurs wanted to do here and what the outcome was Brunson has been attacking Harrison Barnes to end this 3rd quarter. Aware of that, Fox wants Barnes to stay down so he will switch on instead (pre-switch) Knicks counter by sending both McBride and Shamet, Fox sees that and points out to Barnes to take Shamet, basically pre-switch AGAIN. Shamet is open causing Vassell to help, Hart cuts and touches paint. Great relocation from McBride

One of my favorite takeaways is how often the scheme has changed It's changed from Atlanta, that probably everyone knows about by now, and it changed pretty significantly in the Cleveland series. Not talked about as much. Been more freelancy as teams move their bigs off Towns
Heading into the NBA Finals, New York's offense is a shape-shifting monster. How the series vs Cleveland was different than the rest, and the multiple ways they can beat opponents⬇️ open.substack.com/pub/shaxnb…

The same defensive concepts that have worked all regular season, all playoffs, and now in this series are still working. The hard doubles that OKC shredded in the RS, playoffs, & vs SAS are still getting shredded. Here's some of that deterring help. Lots o contested jumpers.
Deterring help >>> doubles vs OKC LA didn’t see the light until way too late (& would’ve lost anyway). San Antonio is seeing it in time.

Brown is one of the best things to happen to this franchise He's had moments of struggle, and made sure to call him out for that. But he's installed a good offense, a better defense, he's getting SIGNIFICANT buy-in, and he understands the vision. Everything is better
Mike Brown credits the likes of Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich with demonstrating the importance of going deep into your bench during the season: "They both always used to say, 'it's not about now, it's about the postseason.'"
