In honour of #WorldTurtleDay today, I’d like to share my journey with #turtles, how I ended up studying them, how I co-founded a non-profit in Malaysia, and what I wished for our turtles. (This is a #thread.)

We discovered a new population of river terrapins in the Kuantan River! 🐢 In 2018, we were told that we were “10 years too late,” so it’s a pleasant surprise to see that they are still around! 🎉 facebook.com/share/v/15x27U6… @TCSMsia

Turtles are wildlife and they should be left in the wild. Do not keep them as pet, or for whatever reason. If you absolutely must keep them, ensure that you have the proper documentation/ license. Especially if they’re listed in the Malaysian Wildlife Conservation Act.

Someone posted on LinkedIn that Harvard University is waiving tuition fees for families earning under $200,000 and the author asked, “What are we doing to help more kids compete for opportunities?” 1. At @TCSMsia, we don’t charge an internship training fee. 🧵

2. Interns will receive an allowance when they assist in certain projects. 3. Subsidised accommodation for female interns are provided. Do we lose out on potential income? Of course. Read about my motivation here: bit.ly/4htsGwe

My daughter and FIL are at the movies. I bought books from Popular and I’d like to find somewhere to sit and read. I have almost 2 hours to kill. But there are no benches in the mall! I don’t want another coffee or ice cream 😢

Yesterday, I welcomed a new female intern to the team, and her mum noticed something special—we're all women. I couldn’t be prouder! 🌟 When I started my turtle conservation journey 20+ years ago, opportunities for women were limited. 🧵

After more than a decade, this is the second consecutive year where we managed to collect more than 1,500 eggs for incubation. As the nesting season begins to slow down, we’re hoping to hit 2,000 eggs this year! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
