Don’t worry. It gets worse. But you will survive this night, and even the worst cannot endure. Keep walking. Rest. Ask for help. Ignore those going faster than you. Refocus on what’s truly important. And come out the other side.

In a lot of classroom group projects, the strongest student does everything. They carry their entire group, and the weaker students don't really learn anything. This is a structural failure mode of of education. From the outside, it can look pretty collaborative. Makes for a good photo op, everyone's discussing, engaged... or so it looks. But the thing is, engagement does not imply learning. Learning requires direct contact with the work, pushing it forward yourself in a productive way. You gotta attempt to retrieve things that you've learned, and if you make a mistakes, you gotta correct them, and try again again. All right, I did it right this time. Now you've learned. Somebody else cannot do that process for you. You don't learn by watching somebody else do that process. You gotta do it yourself. So division of labor in a group project is ultimately division of learning. And concentrating that labor on one student, the smart kid who's carrying their whole group, doing all the work for them... that is a concentration of learning on that one student. After ND was left out of last year’s CFP, there was an assumption the Irish would have run all the way to the title game had they gotten in. Hypothetical. What's a fact? Every single time ND has played an opponent with a pulse over the last two years, it has lost. More: on3.com/news/15-thoughts-aft…

He has his MD. He also has his PhD. Both of those degrees confer the title of doctor on him. He has never claimed to being a licensed and practicing doctor. And physicians do not write subscriptions. They write prescriptions. You might want to layoff calling anyone clueless. People in glass houses and all.
Replying to @PLSgetserious
I guess you're clueless. The guy has no license to be a doctor. He calls himself a doctor because he got some third-world country license from the other side of the world to treat people with strep. The guy cannot legally give a subscription in America. If you disagree, try.

A Savannah police officer gave her Flock login to her husband. Her husband is an ICE agent. He ran 983 license plate searches. Across six states. 788 were in South Carolina. Mostly looking for cars registered to Hispanic owners. An investigator asked her: "Did you run these searches?" She said no. Then admitted it was her husband. Her husband said: "Every name that I ever ran was an ICE target." Translation: I was using the police department's surveillance system to hunt people. She got fired. Along with five other Savannah PD employees. All for Flock misuse. ICE is investigating its own agent. Which means nothing will happen to him. Georgia law apparently lets Savannah police share plate data with ICE. But Savannah never agreed to that. So she just decided it was fine. Gave him the password. He turned it into a deportation tool. Now there's a paper trail showing Flock was used to target Hispanic drivers across state lines. Using a police officer's credentials. With her knowledge. The surveillance network designed to catch criminals became a hunting tool for immigration enforcement. One password away from working.
BREAKING: Georgia police officer fired after giving her ICE agent husband access to Flock surveillance cameras, which he used to conduct nearly 1,000 license plate searches.

Bijan is 1000% correct..
Bijan Robinson says some of his teammates at Texas wanted the frat parties and the status of being a football player more than they wanted to become great Bijan: “Sometimes, teammates went to the school because of just the name. They weren’t invested in the play, they just went because they wanted to go to frat parties and say, ‘Oh, I’m a football player.’ Like, that’s all.” “And I was like, ‘That’s cool, but I don’t think you’re really getting nothing out of it by doing that. Don’t you want to be a great player? Then do it.’ Like, I just didn’t know where their minds were... they’re messed up.”

A casino installed a smart fish tank in the lobby. Beautiful thing. Automated feeding. Temperature control. Remote monitoring. Connected to the internet. Obviously. Hackers found it. Exploited it. Downloaded the high-roller database. 10 gigabytes. Sent it to Finland. Using audio and video protocols so it looked like normal streaming traffic. The fish tank sat in the lobby maintaining water chemistry while stealing credit card numbers. The casino isolated the fish tank on its own VPN. Separate network. Segregated. Off limits to everything. Hackers didn't care. Broke through the isolation anyway. Once inside the fish tank's system. They pivoted to the main network. Quietly pulled data. Methodically. 10 gigabytes over time so nobody noticed. Nobody monitors fish tank outbound traffic. Why would they. It's a fish tank. When Darktrace finally investigated they saw it immediately. The fish tank sending massive amounts of data to an external IP. Using protocols designed for audio. Not data. Clear exfiltration. The only device in the entire casino that ever communicated with that Finland server. A fish tank. Not a computer. Not compromised credentials. Not a malware-laden email. A networked aquarium. The lesson everyone learned: IoT devices are security theater. You can secure them. Lock them down. Isolate them. They're still connected to something. Still vulnerable to something. And something will find them. Even if that something is just checking if a fish tank is running the default password.
Hackers stole 10GB of data from a casino… through a FISH TANK. Not a computer. Not a phone. A FISH TANK. The funny part is you probably have something in your home with the same weakness.

People confuse difficulty with rigor. If you take undergrads and you give them a graduate level textbook, you skip the concrete examples, and you just make them fight their way through it... Yeah, the course is hard, but hard does not automatically mean well-designed or that they're learning more. Sometimes hard just means inefficient. It takes you a lot more work to ultimately get to the same place you could have gotten with a lot less work, concentrated on the areas that are gonna move the needle the most. Sometimes a hard math course is just painful for no reason. And that's the thing about rigor vs. difficulty: Real rigor is not about making the path as brutal as possible. Real rigor is about getting students to understand and master the material. Ideally, without wasting their energy on avoidable confusion. Further reading: justinmath.com/its-incredibl…

Last month, Trump’s DHS asked its cyber division to try and a hack voting machines. BUT: -They directed them to NOT alert voting machine companies if flaws were discovered. Violating policy. -Order to only report directly to White House. That’s NOT typical at all!!
ProPublica: Trump Appointees Wanted a Voting Machine Hacked A few months into President Donald Trump’s second term, political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security made an unusual request of its agency focused on cybersecurity: Secretly acquire a voting machine and hack it. The appointees wanted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to procure the machine, examine it and report back the findings so they could be given to the White House, according to two former administration officials with knowledge of the request. propublica.org/article/cisa-…

One of my absolute favorite parts of ATL.
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.
