Richard Riehle has sadly passed away😔🙏 The face that turned up in Office Space, The Fugitive, Casino, and Grounded for Life and looked like he had always been there. Character actors do not get the poster. They get the scene that would have been empty without them. He filled it every time. Gone. I still spot him the second he enters the frame. The moustache is the giveaway. The rest is just good work.

I don’t enjoy Match of the Day anymore. There, I’ve said it. I grew up watching Desmond Lynam, and it was brilliant. Then came Gary Lineker, with Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson. More recently, we had Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, but still with Lineker holding it all together. I used to watch Match of the Day as much for the personalities as for the football. These were familiar faces who turned up week in, week out, and you actually looked forward to hearing what they had to say. I disagree with Lineker’s politics on a number of issues, but he was a terrific presenter. Warm, funny, personable, and somebody who’d actually been there and done it. And now? It’s just rubbish. I barely even listen to the analysis anymore. The BBC has completely misunderstood what made the programme so enjoyable in the first place. It’s a bit like Top Gear. People didn’t just watch it for the cars. They watched it for Clarkson, May and Hammond. It took the BBC ages to realise that it was the personalities that drove the programme. (Pun intended.) And yet the penny still hasn’t dropped with Match of the Day. There’s nothing particularly wrong with the people presenting it now. They’re perfectly competent. But there’s no charisma. No chemistry. No sense that you’re watching a group of people who genuinely enjoy one another’s company. Nobody sits down on a Saturday evening thinking, “Oh, I can’t wait to hear Mark Chapman’s take on today’s big game.” (And the less said about Wayne Rooney, the better.) Of the three current presenters, I think Gabby Logan is the only one with any real charisma. But even she can’t recreate what the programme used to have. And that’s what the BBC seems incapable of understanding. You can replace presenters, refresh the format and modernise the production, but you can’t manufacture chemistry. You can’t simply swap out personalities and expect viewers to feel the same affection for the programme. Match of the Day used to be an essential part of my Saturday night. Now it’s something I can take or leave. The football hasn’t changed. Well, apart from the wretched VAR. But the programme has lost its personality. And with it, much of its appeal.

The Premier League are more concerned about Ainsley Maitland-Niles not taking the knee, than they are about punishing Manchester City for blatant cheating. The player, who is black, and may have experienced racism during his career, refused to take the knee for Everton, & will be sanctioned by the PL. Well done Ainsley, you stood tall while your white team mates kneeled for the dollar.

BBC licence fee to be extended to YouTube, Netflix & Amazon. This is completely unacceptable. Those of us who have decided not to watch terrestrial TV should not be forced to pay for and prop up an outdated system. Let the BBC sink or swim on its own. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

🚨 PART 3: THE SMOKING GUN PROVING ANDY BURNHAM LIED ABOUT HIS SECRET MAN CITY MEETINGS! In Part 1 and Part 2 of my investigation I warned you that Andy Burnham was hiding the truth, and now his entire cover up has completely collapsed. The Prime Minister looked the country in the eye and claimed he only ever held one single significant meeting with Abu Dhabi bosses back in 2021. Official records have just blown that story wide open, proving Burnham met Manchester City chiefs at least six separate times. Leaked logs show he enjoyed red carpet hospitality dinners at the Etihad Stadium with club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, alongside private sit downs with CEO Ferran Soriano. Local authorities even quietly deleted official registers of interest that recorded his luxury visits to the exclusive Tunnel Club to keep voters completely in the dark. While hard working taxpayers get crushed by record bills, the Prime Minister was secretly wining and dining with foreign oligarchs and then misleading the public about his cosy relationship. Burnham did not just run political interference for a football club found guilty of over one hundred financial breaches, he actively covered up his secret dealings with their billionaire owners. Retweet Part 3 of my investigation immediately to make this trend number one again and demand Andy Burnham answer for his deceit.
