The NBA and prominent sportsbooks have agreed to ban multiple types of bets, per me and @DavidPurdum, such as:
- Parlay bets involving the under on the same player's statistics
- "First of" market; examples: winner of opening tip, an individual's specific shot, rebound, assist, steal
- Under bets on players expected to play less than 12 minutes a game

1/ I have new information about @TickleTexts, a major source of the rumors about James Talarico who also frequently solicits money on here for cancer treatment. I only got what I got because of Amanda Moore's (@noturtlesoup17) initial legwork on this, so please follow her.
Every episode we'll unpack a major issue at a policy level and look at how it's impacting the midterms.
The Capital Forum has a new midterms podcast mini-series hosted by myself and @ArjSingh92. In the first episode: It's not just the Iran war, we look at the hidden problem that is driving up gas prices.

Sorry Eagles fans but this is satisfying after those stories about how the Eagles were supposedly outsmarting the league with their heavy leverage strategy. In truth they just hit on a bunch of players in a row. There was always a downside and now they're wallowing in it.

Look at him, thats my Qual.
Your what?
My Qualitative! My vibe specialist. Look at him, you notice anything different about him? Look at his face.
I'll give you a hint, his name is Jayden. He won a local poetry competition in bushwick! Yeah I'm sure of the vibe.
Quant firms are hiring idea guys, not quants
I've been skeptical about the whole - software is commoditized, ideas are the moat argument
But I've seen first hand the best quant and technical firms in the world hire thinkers, liberal arts grads, and generalists
I predict the trend accelerates

Digger did not ultimately work for me but it is a real Experience movie that I'm glad I saw in theater. It's too bad more people aren't going to check it out because it's a fun one to talk about.
Guess who’s coming back to IMAX theatres?
After #DIGGER’s disastrous performance globally, IMAX has just announced that #ChristopherNolan’s Epic #TheOdyssey will reclaim its historic journey in IMAX theatres, this time including IMAX 70MM format, this week already, on FRI OCT 9!
This supports the theory (sorry I forget who I saw posit it first) that the day and time was the issue, not the name: His staff checked NBA and men's basketball and the Hawks game was the only one playing that evening; they didn't think to check women's basketball.
SCOOP: I've obtained the Smith team texts that were the basis for Schmitt’s questions.
The texts do not reference either the Hawks or Hawkeyes, raising more Qs about Schmitt’s inquiry.
Elsewhere in the docs though, prosecutors do reference Caitlin Clark.

This was the NYT's tweet at 6:08 am, when the news was breaking and they had no details. It's currently leading the site with more details, because... they reported and got more details.
We went through this when people were FURIOUS with headlines about how Trump was taken offstage when shots were heard in Butler... because the reporters didn't immediately say what they confirmed five minutes later.

It's not often one gets the opportunity to make a pro-piracy case about film preservation, and yet here we are!
Thrilled this piece is out. Go read it.
[Thanks @vrizov and @danielkasman for being terrific editors.]
"When an informal network of amateurs questions the work of industry standard-bearers, it is rarely a matter of raw technical superiority but rather a fundamental difference in constraints..."

An immense amount of resources have gone into studying Havana Syndrome across many government agencies. None of them found evidence of an attack. Extensive clinical research by NIH could not detect any evidence "Havana Syndrome" exists.
