Excited to welcome @jaketapper, @danabashcnn and @CNN’s great debate team to Maine. We'll have the Democratic U.S. Senate candidates *for 2 hours* in front of delegates who will decide the nomination two days later. bangordailynews.com/2026/07/…

What's next in #MESen now that Graham Platner is (nearly) out? DDHQ spoke with @bangordailynews politics editor @mikeshepherdME. The new Maine Dem nominee will have 2 big challenges: Party unity post-Platner + winning over the Biden-Collins voters likely needed to flip the seat.

incredibly funny seeing all of these randos on Twitter weighing in on potential Democratic candidates like their opinions matter. I promise you that Bellows running the Holocaust and Human Rights Center for a few years will influence zero (0) Maine voters
Shenna, Because of your past role at the holocaust and human rights center, some have extrapolated that to assume you would have policy that is too sympathetic to Israel in general. It is obviously perfectly fine to think that the holocaust was atrocious, that Israel has a right to self-defence AND that the current situation in Gaza is a horrific genocide that far exceeds any claim to self defence. But in a short campaign, given your background, what will not be ok is ambiguity on policy around these issues. Can your team formally put on the record your stance on the following questions: 1) Do you support the outright ban of offensive weapons to Israel? 2) Do you support the withholding of all defensive systems to Israel until there is a full and complete withdrawal from Gaza? 3) Do you support a two-state solution? 4) Do you support a US investigation into war crimes in Gaza? 5) Do you support the US becoming party to the ICC? While other candidates have other major policy points that will be the crux of this race for them, your occupational background raises these as fair questions in the minds of voters. However, that same work means you more than many deeply understand the horrors of genocide and the costs of staying silent. So if you have no problem in calling out these abuses, then that is something the voters in Maine need to know, on the record, as soon as possible.

Rep. Geiger told @mikeshepherdME that Platner called her Monday night to say he was putting her name forward as a potential candidate, along with Troy Jackson and Shenna Bellows. It appears she didn't mention the other candidates to WMTW. From the BDN: bangordailynews.com/2026/07/…
According to @WMTWTV, Platner wants state Rep. Valli Geiger to replace him Geiger, from Rockland, has been one of Platner's most loyal supporters from the jump — has appeared in ads for him, wrote op-eds, and spoke at his primary night rally wmtw.com/article/valli-geige…

It's interesting that she wrote this for the Washington Post rather than a Maine outlet when the people who will decide whether Platner becomes a U.S. senator are Maine voters washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

The theory that Maine is shifting more liberal because of people moving here is not backed up by voter registration data. Republicans gained ground from 2020 to 2025 while Dems lost registered voters: bangordailynews.com/2026/03/…
Which is why I think Collins is in John Tester territory this election.

Someone posted this comment on CNN's video of the South Portland fishing shacks being destroyed and I couldn't tell if it was satirical until reading the later replies (it was not)

One of the most interesting lines in this @LValigra story about the Bill Nemitz-led nonprofit trying to buy Reade Brower's Maine newspaper empire is Brower saying the group asked if he would be willing to sell them *some* or all of the assets. bangordailynews.com/2023/04/…
