Had to double take when I heard Abbott won’t be showing up to Trump’s appearance in San Antonio tonight. Abbott said he’s too busy. Didn’t they both run basically the same anti-immigration playbook? It’s probably time to do an ‘Operation Lone Star’s greatest hits’ piece.
During the last Trump admin, The Rio Grande Valley protested the border wall here to such a degree that exceptions were made for several sites like Santa Ana and La Lomita. A lawsuit holds up construction at Santa Ana now. But it continues elsewhere, including in Starr County.

The restraining order against Spencer Construction, which is building a section of border wall near the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, has been extended until Sept. 10.
“It’s a smash-and-grab. That’s what we have here,” said attorney Lance Kirby of Weslaco, who represents Hidalgo County Irrigation District #2. “It’s a classic smash-and-grab by the United States government.”
