What a legendary morning! In the early morning of July 5, just hours after the US’ 250th anniversary (& 30 years after attending an aborted space shuttle launch), I finally got to see a proper rocket take off & travel into space 🚀
The fact that I'm an early backer of a startup that actually has cargo on board this flight made it even more thrilling. – at Cape Canaveral, FL

we're probably 6–18 months away from a world where:
- obesity is basically solved
- balding actually gets fixed, real hair regrowth
- biological age becomes something you can push backwards
- fertility stops being locked to a biological countdown clock
- cancer treatment looks less like chemo and more like software: sequence the tumor, design the fix, treat it
- some genetic diseases get erased with a single treatment
- lab-grown organs become a real option
- drugs get designed faster than human teams can test them
- autonomous labs run thousands of experiments overnight while everyone sleeps
- your doctor gets a biological dashboard that catches disease before you feel a symptom
- personalized medicine means getting a treatment designed specifically for your biology
2026 is changing the stakes
we're extrapolating from things that are already working

“Middle age” doesn't start at 45. It's more like 35.
The average life expectancy in developed countries is ~80.
The perception of time also accelerates with age, meaning that the second half of your life is subjectively shorter.
That means your real halfway point isn’t 45. It’s your early to mid-30s, perhaps 35.
A brutal reminder that you don't have as much time as you think. Don’t waste it.

Slow down and remember this:
Most things make no difference.
Being busy is a form of laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action.
Being overwhelmed is often as unproductive as doing nothing, and is far more unpleasant.
Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive.
Focus on the important few and ignore the rest.

I’ve been working towards AGI my whole life, and as we enter this pivotal moment, I’m stepping into a new role as Chair of Google DeepMind & Chief Scientist of Alphabet. This will allow me to focus on long-term strategy, and accelerating scientific breakthroughs, including leaning into my work at Isomorphic to help cure disease.
I’m excited that @koraykv will be stepping up to lead GDM as SVP, alongside @joshwoodward and our exec team. I could not be more excited and confident about our amazing next chapter! 🚀

NewLimit: fastest capital velocity in epigenetic reprogramming, still pre-clinical
Retro Biosciences: best-funded of the private reprogramming players, with a clearer path in autophagy than in reprogramming
Altos Labs: launched in 2022 with the largest single commitment in the sector’s history ($3B), still without a disclosed clinical program
Insilico Medicine: the AI-native, Asia-anchored platform play, positioning discovery speed as its edge

Major cheat code for life: Assume good things are still ahead. You are not behind. You are not too late. You are not disqualified by your past. One new season can change the entire story. Keep showing up with belief. The best chapters are often written after the hardest ones.

Arguing humans can’t live much longer is like arguing about the limits to the speed of a transatlantic trip before air travel is invented
