Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor just shared, in a panel discussion along with Justice Neil Gorsuch, that in the USA, we spend $54 per student on STEM courses, and only $.05 on Civics education. #sschat @SocialStudiesMN @NCSSNetwork @CivXNow

Will this summit happen in Moscow, the place where the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was signed? Or Yalta?

Beyond irresponsible. What part of enforcing a law passed 86-11 by the Senate does the President and his advisors not understand? It’s unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator who illegally invaded Ukraine and butchers innocent civilians every single day. If the President wants to actually bring down energy prices, he can do it by solving the Iran problem, not by doing a solid for Vladimir Putin.

Unbelievable and shameful.
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump puts new Russia sanctions passed by Congress on hold, saying a waiver is in the US national interest.

From one year ago. It was always Trump‘s plan to lift sanctions on Russia, because it’s always been Putin‘s plan.
The rights to the popular “Red Rising” book series have been picked up at Paramount with “Hunger Games” director Francis Lawrence attached to a movie based on the first novel.
Justin Rhodes will write the script, based on the original 2014 novel by author Pierce Brown.

Ukraine can't destroy Gazprom's pipelines because doing so inconveniences German consumers.
Ukraine can't hit Russian refineries because that inconveniencs US consumer.
Russia, on the other hand, can destroy Ukraine's energy grid because it inconveniences no one.
Shameful.

There’s just no replacement for Shelby Wilder. She works for NewsMax, dodges bombs in Kyiv and speaks unflinchingly to the MAGA base.
I don’t usually join panels, but given the news and my presence on the ground, I was asked to weigh in. Here’s my response to a panelist who appeared to be defending Vladimir Putin amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine:
“Do you want to save Ukrainian civilian lives, or would you rather hinder and kneecap what’s supposed to be your ally in its fight for survival against Russia? That’s simply what it comes down to now.”

Team Erdoğan’s corruption has become unsustainable. In a normal country, the leader would hit reset. Erdoğan may no longer be able to. Too many of his cronies now have vested interests in the status quo. A real cleanup would jeopardize the arrangements that keep them loyal.

I just don't get why US conservatives see Russia as a defender of Christian values while its forces kill Ukrainian Christians, shut churches and torture pastors. My new documentary, See You in Heaven, tells this story. Thanks @professorgerdes for having me on to discuss it.

Let us call this what it is! A foreign ambassador, on Philippine soil, before Filipino journalists, telling Filipinos that his country "may easily win" if it chooses to use force against us. That is not reassurance. That is a direct threat, and wrapping it in "we love peace" does not change what it is.
Ambassador Jing Quan is a guest in this country. We received him, accredited him, and extended to him every courtesy owed to a diplomat. A guest who reminds his host that he could easily beat him up, but has graciously decided not to, is not describing friendship. He is threatening the very country that received him and asking us to be grateful for it.
He says we should "feel fortunate" to have a neighbor like China. Our fishermen driven away from Bajo de Masinloc do not feel fortunate. Our Coast Guard personnel water-cannoned, rammed, and lasered in our own exclusive economic zone do not feel fortunate. No people feel fortunate when a larger neighbor repeatedly violates the law and then tells them to be thankful it was not worse.
The threat or use of force is prohibited under Article 2(4) of the UN Charter. China's claims in the West Philippine Sea were ruled without legal basis by the 2016 Arbitral Award.
The Philippines does not measure its rights by the size of its neighbor's military. We measure them by international law. Not using force against a country whose rights you are already violating is not peace. It is coercion by other means!
