Burning wood is devastating people's health, especially in cities 🔥
Despite that, sales of wood burning stoves are increasing 🚨
So how can councils and campaigners inform people about the connections between wood burning and air pollution? 🧵👇

Clean air shouldn’t be a privilege.
In London, we’ve seen how bold action on air quality can make a huge difference.
⬇️ Harmful roadside pollution down by 27%
⬇️ 40% fall in estimated deaths linked to toxic air
That’s real progress. But everyone, no matter their background or where they live, deserves cleaner air.

The meat industry tries very hard to keep cameras out of factory farms and slaughterhouses -- and a new undercover video shows why. Some day, our descendants will wonder about our collective blind spot to animal cruelty. A gift link to my column: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/opini…

All things considered, Reeves and Starmer are probably going to have better economic legacies than their departures might have indicated.

Annualised UK GDP growth so far in 2026, with two-thirds of the year gone, is 2.7-2.8%
Is expected to slow in q4, but that was also expected in q3. And q2.
City economists (eg Pantheon) say “we have to shift from describing UK growth as resilient to calling it strong”.

It cannot be overstated how every one of these tankers going down either in Europe or the Middle East is its own massive ecological disaster.
Once you add them all up we’re talking about ecocide at that point. We’re killing everything with these wars. Not just us.

Guaranteed annual increase in pensions plus no charges ever for care? Incredible deal!
Patrick Lee retweeted
Everyone upset about the rumoured triple lock changes, remember, is insisting that the state pension should rise *faster* than the wages of the people who pay for it. That’s the only thing at stake here. Andy is not cutting the pension, or even suggesting it should stop rising.

The UK’s spy chiefs examined the impacts of the collapse of overseas ecosystems, under pressure of climate crisis and biodiversity loss, on UK’s national security.
Their findings?
“Apocalyptic.”

NEW: An AI-assisted intel report sent the military scrambling to intercept a Chinese ship in the Middle East it believed was transporting components of a nuclear weapons program.
It turned out to be a hallucination. And it "almost started a war." cnn.com/2026/09/18/politics/…

Hi. 😊 Swedish dude here.
When our children get sick, we have 60 paid days per year to stay home with them.
Per parent.
They're separate from my 25 paid vacation days.
Meaning I don't have to use my own paid sick leave.
If I'm a single parent: 120 days.
If my child has a chronic illness: 120 days
If my child is hospitalized: unlimited days.
These days reset every January.
By law. every year until child is 18.
