1. The overhead light stays off after dark.
Danish rooms are lit by several small lamps at low level instead of one bright fixture in the ceiling. Most of us light a room the way an office is lit, from above and all at once, then wonder why the room never feels like evening. Three cheap lamps beat one good ceiling light every night of the year.

If as seems likely most people outsource their writing in future to LLMs it will be a terrible development not because the writing of LLMs is bad (it may improve in future) but because the point of writing is not just to express oneself but to actually discover what it is you really believe by undergoing a meditative process of reflecting and revising your ideas. This is completely different from thinking you know what you want to say at the outset and having a machine instantly produce it for you.

Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
It leaves our workers unprotected and our streets less safe. It's time for a change.

One thing never much discussed in SHSAT discourse is how many high-achieving Black and Latino eighth graders don't even bother with the test because they can get full rides to secular private or Catholic schools, or maybe go the charter route. I don't know.
