Jim Nantz says Mike Ditka used to pay and tip for everything with $100 bills, and never ask for change
“I noticed early on that all he carried were $100 bills. All he did was peel off hundreds all the time. Buy a beer at the bar on the way out to dinner, ‘Yeah, give me a Budweiser.’ $100. Keep the change.”
“Coat check, comes into a restaurant, comes out, $100. Man on the street, homeless, there was one guy that kind of understood the routine and he was there every week. Mike, every time, $100 bill.”
“I finally got up the nerve to say, ‘Hey coach, why don’t you ever get change? Why just the hundreds?’ He says, ‘Hey, what’s the difference anyway?’”
“He said, ‘You know, the way I look at it, when I die and they drop me down into the ground, I hope there’s a little opening in that coffin and my last $100 bill comes flying out and goes up into the sky and drifts away. That would make me happy.’”
“So I said, ‘This gets a little pricey, doesn’t it?’ ‘It’s not that bad, Jim.’ He said, ‘Here’s the way I rationalize it in my head. We got 20 weeks. I come every single Friday to New York. I come in with 50 $100 bills, $5,000. And at the end of the season, I’m spending $100,000.’”
“He would say, ‘I’ve allocated $100,000 to the football season to go enjoy myself in New York. And that’s the way it is.’ I take $5,000 in cash in hundreds every single week. And that’s what he did.”

Pope Leo XIV has said his doctors have found “a localized nodule” in his lung and will operate in a few days.
Speaking at the Angelus on Sunday, he said the nodule was “detected at a very early stage and is well localized.”
The Pope added that his doctors recommend surgery and that he will follow their advice, with the surgery scheduled for the coming days.
Pope Leo thanked everyone for their spiritual closeness and entrusted himself to our prayers.
“Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, doctors found a localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well localized. The doctors believe surgery is appropriate. Following their advice, I have therefore decided to undergo an operation to remove it. The operation is already scheduled for the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.”

We are the first utility in the U.S. to be issued a construction permit by the @NRCgov for the BWRX-300 small modular reactor, paving the way for advancing new nuclear innovation and enhancing America’s energy security.
This achievement was made possible through strong collaboration among local, state, and federal leaders, the NRC’s rigorous and transparent review, and industry partners.
Partnership is how progress happens — and the Tennessee Valley is leading the way.

Thx for the prayers — Turns out cutting out chunks of yer liver is no joke, man.
Good news, bad news, and next steps…
Good: big liver surgery last week successfully cleared out a bunch o cancer. (Pretty darn great — considering 9 mons ago, when told I had 3-4 months to live, surgery wasn't even an option.)
Bad: Tests on the tumors show they were more advanced than we thought — meaning always-mutating tumors have developed some resistance tricks to our former treatment protocol.
Bummer but that's life, and was eventually expected.
Next:
We're gunna change up treatment to carpet-bomb-chemo as much of the rest of the cancer as we can for a bit.
Send chemo tips -- do NOT send more Nickelback promotional materials (am painfully aware they’ll be performing at the Hondo Rodeo Fest in Febr).
Grateful to God for this extra time — both time w/ fam and time to fight. Can't say enough good things about…

The day you've been waiting for is finally here. Yes, temperatures below 90! Temperatures finally trend down today and then more tomorrow. A few storms will linger across the Plateau each day through Thursday, but otherwise, it'll be dry for most over the next several days.

The strongest heat dome on Earth right now is sitting on Tennessee.
Heat makes air swell. The hotter the dome, the higher the whole atmosphere stacks up.
Over Tennessee, the halfway point of the atmosphere is 19,665 feet up. That is higher than over the Sahara. Higher than the Middle East. Higher than anywhere else on the planet.
Nashville hit 100 yesterday and is forecast to do it again today.

🚨 JUST IN: The US Senate has ADVANCED the Protect College Sports Act, which would create NATIONAL RULES for college athletics
Major aspects of the bill:
✅ Athletes can earn money from their name, image, and likeness without LOSING scholarships
✅ Athletes get ONE penalty-free transfer
✅ D1 schools must cover out-of-pocket costs for sports-related injuries
✅ Agent fees are capped at 5%
It's practically GUARANTEED to pass at this point, as it's overwhelmingly bipartisan. Full vote tomorrow.

INSPIRATIONAL: #Commanders safety Tyler Owens’ journey to the #NFL is absolutely remarkable.
Owens was an ELITE prospect coming out of Plano East High School in Texas.
He was a four-star recruit, an All-American, ran a ridiculous 10.35-second 100-meter dash and was ranked as one of the top safeties in the country.
Tyler committed to TEXAS with massive expectations.
But things never really took off.
Owens spent THREE YEARS with the Longhorns and appeared in 27 games, but started just ONCE and recorded only 12 tackles.
So he transferred to Texas Tech looking for another opportunity.
Owens finally started to show what he could do, finishing his final college season with a career-high 37 tackles.
Then came the NFL Combine…
Owens recorded a 41-INCH VERTICAL and an unbelievable 12-FOOT-2 BROAD JUMP — just ONE INCH shy of the unofficial world record.
And despite being one of the most freakishly athletic players at the entire Combine…
HE WENT UNDRAFTED.
Washington gave Owens an opportunity as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
He entered camp fighting simply to make the team — and WON a spot on the Commanders’ initial 53-man roster.
From highly touted high school recruit, to barely playing at Texas, to transferring, going UNDRAFTED and having to fight for an NFL roster spot.
Now Tyler Owens has become one of the most feared special-teams players in football.
NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM.
🙏
