I’m just a PhD student standing in front of the gaps in the historiography looking for one (1) viable (and employable) dissertation topic. – at Phra Khanong, Thailand

Tuning into the NYC Marathon coverage to watch a real sport featuring serious racing unlike whatever on earth Formula 1 is doing in Brazil this weekend.
We’ll always have 2019. Thank you, Tony. 🧡💙 #GoHoos
Not sure economists can say they now take history seriously if they do not take historical scholarship seriously. History does not write itself and our discipline exists not only just to provide cherry-picked “natural experiments” for theories of everything and nothing.

Back from Minnesota for two days already and I just realized my Outlook Calendar is somehow still stuck in Central Time. My conversation with my laptop just now:
A bit over a year after I ended up in a medical tent at a 25K, I have successfully ran my first full marathon. I did not let myself have any time goals going into this, but I am really happy with and surprised by what I achieved at the Twin Cities Marathon. Minnesota, I love you.
I'm in Minnesota for the first time and every man over 50 here dresses and talks like Tim Walz I thought it was a bit but turns out this is just how this place is.
Really sad and distressing to see two German state premiers and a premier-hopeful get coerced by the "left-wing" pro-Putin party into selling out Ukraine like this just for coalition negotiations... publishing the piece in the FAZ on German Unity Day is also quite a choice.
This "pro-diplomacy" piece by the PMs of Saxony & Brandenburg, and (probably) Thuringia, is so bereft of substance I thought half of it must have been lost in the CMS. Not incidentally, all three are negotiating coalitions with @SWagenknecht. faz.net/aktuell/politik/inla…
do american motorists know that right turn on red was not in fact one of the unalienable rights in the declaration of independence?
Mette Frederiksen is right to remind us that "the most important red line has been crossed already. And that was when the Russians entered Ukraine." Good to see that other European countries are willing to lead on this while France and Germany are distracted by domestic politics.
The Danish prime minister to her allies: Stop talking about “red lines” and let Ukraine strike Russia.

Has someone written something on the transnational right-wing culture war on bike lanes? From the CDU in Berlin to Ford in Ontario it's becoming quite a fascinating trend over the past few years.

What is it with runners who do not acknowledge/wave back at fellow runners? We used to live in a society, death of solidarity, etc.
The President of Finland is looking out for future diplomatic/international historians hoping—and praying—to find some hot gossip in the archives.
