Defending your loved ones, on your sovereign land, in response to a foreign invader, is not a pro-war stance. It is a moral obligation and a legal right. Calling for appeasement - when the chances of foreign soldiers kicking down your door and taking your children are zero - is not a brave stance. #ArmUkraineToWinNow

This is something that you become really used to (and eventually blind) in Jerusalem; the normality of daily co-existence, the normality of life alongside people who look all but like you. The normality of living together without harming each other. Miss Jerusalem.

As the sun sets this evening in Jerusalem – as has happened every Friday evening for the past few decades – Muslims will leave the Old City after late afternoon prayers, and Jews will enter the Old City for their Shabbat evening prayers. The video was taken from Damascus Gate. It’s the entrance to the Muslim quarter of the Old City, and yet people of all faiths feel free to frequent it, to come and go as they please. This is my city – the capital of capitals – a citadel of three different faiths, home to synagogues and mosques and holy shrines. It is the capital of the promised land, a land promised to Ibrahim/Abraham, the forefather of both Muslims and Jews. It is the capital of Israelis and the capital of Palestinians. This little video I took last Friday evening shows something so simple – how normal it is to co-exist. How normal it is to share this sacred city. How normal it is to live together in a land promised to all of us.

I can't sleep. Every night this past month, Russian drones are over Kyiv, often just outside my window that I wake up to their buzzing. In a new, twisted upgrade, they’re now armed with thermobarics—fire clouds that burn up all the air, and people, in any space they hit 1/

The Handbook of Affective Polarization is just out in a pre-print version. I think it will be an extremely valuable resource for scholars working on the concept. I was glad to contribute a chapter on how talking to people from the other party reduces partisan hostility.
I have the honor to share the Handbook of Affective Polarization that I co-edit with @EelcoHarteveld. It is open access, pre-registered preprint: Torcal, M., & Harteveld, E. (2024, November 1). Handbook of Affective Polarization. doi.org/10.31219/osf.io/rh29… @UPFBarcelona @RECSM_UPF
