Anthropic exploits the work of millions of creatives without paying them.
This is not absolved by donating a fraction of the ill-gotten gains to the ‘public good’.
If you want to work for the ‘public good’, start by not exploiting people.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.

Beth Dobbin has revealed she now spends more than 22 hours a day in bed as she battles myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
The 32-year-old, who represented Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, told BBC Sport that she wanted to raise awareness of the condition even though the interview itself could set her back for months.
ME is a chronic, fluctuating disease that causes symptoms including sleep problems, pain, difficulties with thinking and memory.
Even everyday activities, such as having a conversation or being exposed to bright lights or loud noises, can trigger a “crash”, with symptoms lasting anywhere from 24 hours to several months.
There is currently no known cure for ME and no specific treatment.

PIP recipients report a huge variety of conditions, and most have multiple conditions.
While three-in-ten (31 per cent) report having depression, just 2 per cent of all PIP recipients report depression as their only condition.
Only one per cent (or less) report having only anxiety or ADHD.
