Homeless dude asked me for money so he could buy cigarettes. Said no, but I'll buy you a sandwich. Just watched him trade sandwich for cigs.

I saw @paras360 do this at a @HoustonRockets game in 2024.
Incredibly powerful moment.
I am stunned at the number of people publicly supporting @bofrench and his tweets and views on Indians and immigrants in general.
Aside from the fact that the guy is a bigot and racist, he functionally knows nothing about the RRC and how it works. The guy has almost assuredly never spent a second in central records or understanding any real issues that plague the RRC.
It comes as no shock that there are several anon accounts (not very anon if you spend 10 seconds in their profile) here that sell products (sand, engineering services, land, etc.) to Indians and have Indian colleagues! I guarantee they wouldn’t turn a deal down if their counterparty was Indian - and I would bet if that same counterparty knew the things they said “anonymously” they’d stop doing business with them and take their dollars elsewhere. It’s funny how when it comes to making a buck your racism stops.
Nothing really bothers me and blatant racism, if that’s how you want to live your life, is your choice. Amongst the many problems in the world I can’t imagine some Indian college kids that got into a university by ranking in the top 6% of their graduating class in perhaps the most meritorious fashion possible is the hill that so many are dying on.
What a weird week.

To add to the deluge ---
What's funny about this is it might be single worst image to argue against immigration.
These are probably children of high skilled Indian immigrants (mostly around Dallas area), who came for jobs in IT, engineering, and finance. Most are probably citizens now, as are their parents, and they have done very well, by all measures.
High skilled Indians are as model an immigrant group as you can find, by whatever metric, you look at. For Eco types they add to the GDP/capita, so graph goes up (they do not end up on social services, they are gainfully employed.) For the social fabric types, they have strong families, low crime, high social functionality, and so that graph also goes up.
For the cultural realist types (things like group characteristics are real, and matters), Hinduism might be the OG prosperity theology -- the idea that material success is evidence of cosmic/divine favor* -- so they fundamentally align with the American Dream.
That these kids are at the game, indistinguishable other than ethnicity, is snapshot of all of that. American kids being American kids.
Maybe your argument is we need a time-out and so you want a new Johnson-Reed Act to halt immigration for several decades to a trickle, to allow a period of assimilation, to strengthen the social fabric, to put American workers first, etc.
But even that act wasn't a freeze, and wasn't neutral, favoring immigration from different cultures over others, specifically at the time Northern Europeans (and Latinos because farming industry lobbying), and any new act, based on the same SimCulture mentality, would almost certainly want the kids pictured below.
Or to put it another way, this tweet/photo might be the worst argument for the "smart" anti-immigration cause, because it is simply racist/retarded argument.
*PS: That is an over-simplification, but the reality is high status Hindus don't have any problem reconciling their faith with career ambition, and wealth. The reconciliation was done long ago, as anyone who ever attended an Indian wedding can tell you. Gold Gold Gold

Great year at the @schradermile. 4.47 (girls) and 4.09 (boys) winners and ~50% of the kids ran a PR. Successful year and really excited for next year as we get ready to put on a big party for the 20th episode of the race.
Big ups to @TXMileSplit and @atxgoodguy for all the help!

A really nice article about the meet I’ve put on for the last 18 years by @DanielDingus and @TXMileSplit l.
Running is expensive. Track meets are boring. The world is full of people trying to make a buck everywhere they turn. Youth sports is even worse. This will be the 19th straight year we’ve put on the @schradermile and I’m just as excited this year as I was in 2008.

Citius is in the late stage of being cool. In track & field, media startups and personalities get a short window to maximize earnings and profile before the turn, when the founder ages, the audience changes, and the tone shifts.
Their playbook is obvious. Make money, keep the founder front and center, and go full athlete PR to extend that window so the person, the brand, or both, can monetize and stay relevant when the coolness factor of their brand wears off.
And then the surprise ending. Everyone finds out at the end that the $272,000 raised isn’t going to the kids with cancer. Instead it’s going to the @CitiusMag staff.
The big news today in track is that @GrandSlamTrack filed for Chapter 11. That filing in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware can be found here: drive.google.com/file/d/1JrO…
These guys have completely incinerated every bit of capital. Less than 50k in assets with liabilities totaling 10mm - 50mm.
I really don't understand why MJ is continuing to go on a press tour saying "I refuse to give up on the mission."
The company is completely insolvent, has no assets, and athletes are going to receive exactly $0.00 after this is all over.
The *only* reason you file Chapter 11 instead of Chapter 7 at this juncture is because you want control. They will likely angle for a Section 363 sale - which will allow someone to come in, buy the assets debt-free. The question is what assets are there to buy? Maybe an email list of the ticket purchasers, the logos, or other "Brand/IP." You would be a complete sucker to buy that. The goodwill value is negative.
What's most wild to me in the filing is that the board resolution has MJ and the Board signing on separate counter party pages. Likely a remote, last second, scrambling to get this done before lawsuits start landing.
I am stunned that athletes didn't file suits before this. They fell into the classic "frog in boiling water" trap - constant updates, shifted deadlines (July -> Sept -> Oct), and a partial "good faith" payment of $5.5M in October that bought the league just enough time to get its house in order to file Chapter 11.
If you didn't get your wire before the filing hit the docket this morning, you are done. The "Automatic Stay" is now in effect. You can't sue. You just get in line as an "unsecured creditor" behind the lawyers and the restructuring consultants and the overpriced PR firm that GST managed to find budget for.
It's sad that what should've been a league that was going to professionalize the sport has been run by the most unprofessional team ever. None of these people should be allowed to touch track and field again and the "media outlets" constantly promoting their nonsense in an incredibly biased way without looking into the clown show itself should be ashamed.
Largely @jgault13 and @dpyoung13 have done a good job covering this and getting an interview with Citius today was nice on LetsRun - but there are some significantly overlooked details in the creditors list that go way beyond just "bad cash flow."
The most embarrassing part for Citius was effectively on the payroll for ~$270k while one of its equity holders sat dead center in a circular economy - working as a league exec while owning a stake in the media company billing the league - all while presiding over a burn rate that’s completely indefensible.
Spending 3mm on production and 500k in total fees on a single athlete for a product that generates niche gate revenue is insanely stupid. I am stunned at the level of incompetence.
But most importantly, there is discussion that the investors pumped in "eight figures" in the fall of this year. Judging by the filings, that's not a commitment to GST, it was a strategic trap. By injecting the cash late and almost certainly structuring it as secured debt, Winners Alliance and Robert Smith likely jumped to the front of the line and secured a first position lien. So, whatever value is left in a Section 363 sale or Chapter 7 (which is where this is heading if a 363 sale can't be done) will repay themselves first while leaving all of the athletes with absolutely nothing.
Also - the filing lists the top 20 creditors that are NOT insiders. We have yet to see the filing with MJ or other related entities and/or other execs. If the company's governance allowed someone to sit inside of a circular economy like the Citius arrangement, I have little to no doubt that there will be other conflicts of interests hidden in those documents.
The whole operation was run like a clown show. Over $1.5M (plus the money Citius was being paid) was paid to PR/marketing consultants. You could've run ads on IG in Kingston and offered tickets for $5 with some 18 year old kid running the ads and gotten more fans than 4,000 or whatever they had. My own little tiny track meet gets 1,000 fans out there with zero ad spend. How on earth do you spend $1.5mm on all of these firms and you get nothing out of it?
I don't care whether or not Citius got paid - the sport is small and insular, there aren't a million opportunities to make money and promote the sport. The lack of disclosures is whatever - the FTC is doing little to nothing about it because it has no way to enforce the scale of the problem. What's really troubling is that track and field was promised an operation run by smart people - and every single person involved turned out to be a bonafide idiot.
