We built decades of policy on one assumption: get more people to a degree, and earnings follow. New 14-year RCT results on CUNY's ASAP — the gold standard of community college reform. Completion up 7.7 points. Earnings 14 years later: nothing. That assumption needs reopening.

Every social program that treats degree completion as the finish line needs to re-open the assumption that degree completion leads to better earnings. Americans already sense college's payoff has become unreliable. We still haven't built them a credible alternative.

Thank you @RepJoshHarder for holding this administration accountable.
Sec. Kennedy: Mercury is absolutely—it’s the most powerful neurotoxin we know of in the universe. Rep. Harder: So why are you working for an administration that is doubling the amount of mercury pollution in our air and water? Sec. Kennedy: I am running HHS and I’m ending the chronic disease epidemic. I’m not going to comment on that because I don’t know anything about it. Rep. Harder: Well, that’s very convenient for you, and it shows a significant degree of cowardice. It’s not just mercury. President Trump in July 2025 granted 50 chemical plants— Sec. Kennedy: Why don’t you ask me something that I’m in charge of instead of other things? Rep. Harder: Are you not in charge of Health and Human Services?

Every state wants to train workers for “high demand jobs” — but what exactly are those? My thoughts based on our work in #Virginia @VEDPVirginia linkedin.com/posts/project-o…

"There's no institution in America with as much potential to re-skill than community colleges. In 2018, there were 17K people in bootcamps, 200K people in gov't job training programs, and 12 MILLION PEOPLE in community colleges." -Tamar Jacoby @opp_america, @JosephBFuller

When you slap on a 4-year degree requirement to a job description, you’re immediately excluding 75% of black Americans, 83% of Latinos, and 81% of rural Americans. @byron_auguste @OpptyatWork @stradaeducation

I’m not taking any chances this year — I just voted at our kitchen table and mailed my ballot back. Although voting looks a little different this time around, it is still a privilege and a joy to cast my vote for my incredible life partner and best friend. – at Turlock, CA
