Lots of great reads here, including several specifically about #Florida. Read them. Share them.

This is difficult to listen to as she is a LIAR!!!!! She didn’t start a charter school. I had already submitted a charter application to the school district and never knew her or her husband. They got involved with the charter school I started later and in a limited capacity. She didn’t even know about classical education. Then she tried to steal the hard work and success of our team, so she could make millions.

“Parents did not suddenly gain choices when Florida created charter schools and expanded vouchers. Families have long chosen among public, private and religious schools, home education and private tutoring. Public districts also offer magnets, career programs, specialized academies, dual enrollment and virtual education. What changed was not the existence of choice. It was the use of taxpayer dollars to finance more of those choices, creating an expanding education marketplace.” sun-sentinel.com/2026/10/08/…

We are quietly isolating an entire generation of older people from society, and nobody seems to give a damn. I took my 84-year-old grandfather to his local bank branch on Friday. The exact same brick-and-mortar branch where he opened his first account in 1978. We pull up to the front doors. They’re locked. Inside is an empty lobby with a small sign: “Cashless Service Hub.” A young guy in a polo shirt opens the door and tells us: “We don't handle teller deposits or paper checks here anymore. You just need to download the mobile portal and scan your routing number.” My grandfather pulls out an old flip phone with a cracked screen and a paper pension check from his coat pocket. His hands were visibly shaking. The employee just shrugs. “You can do it on an iPad, or have a family member manage the app for you.” This man worked forty-two years in a manufacturing plant. Paid his taxes. Fought for this country. And now he is made to feel completely useless and stripped of his dignity because he doesn't own an iOS device. Tech isn't making life easier if it completely locks out the people who built the world we’re living in. Are your elderly parents or grandparents running into this wall too?

NYTimes: Private School Vouchers are higher cost, less effective as a strategy for student outcomes. What happened to “accountability for taxpayer funded education?” In Florida we spend more on private school vouchers (closing in on $5B) than any other state, and it’s not close.
What are the most effective methods of improving student achievement? An NYT investigation. For me, the data point in the bottom left quadrant is absolutely critical to understanding why student achievement goes wrong so often: teachers making up their own curriculum. nytimes.com/2026/09/28/upsho…

Uh, no! This is just an utterly ignorant - facile minded - understanding of schools, spending, and costs. see: schoolfinance101.com/2026/09…
Bad schools can often end up having the *highest* per student funding precisely because no attentive parent wants to send their kid there, so you end up in an equilibrium with low enrollment + high fixed costs. slowboring.com/p/how-blue-st…
