Three ideas just hit the Bitcoin dev mailing list to address the quantum threat.
Quantum Landmines: Owners hide a proof in advance. Anyone moving old coins must lock up the same amount as collateral for weeks. If the real owner shows up with the proof, they keep their coins and take the collateral.
Staked Auction: Others stake their own BTC on exposed wallets in advance, with a hidden bid. If those coins are moved, an auction opens and the stakers can claim the mover’s collateral.
Sats Auction: No staking needed. Every move of an old coin opens an auction. The highest bidder takes the coins minus their bid, and the runner-up loses theirs.
Landmines require the owner to act. But what happens to the Bitcoin in wallets associated with Satoshi if no one can?
The auction ideas try to answer that, each in a very different way.
But none of them is decided. None of them is part of Bitcoin yet.
For now, 1,096,361 BTC still sits exactly where Satoshi left it.
Bitcoin needs more proposals like these, and more people paying attention to the quantum threat.
That attention won’t come by waiting.

Insolite: Un dev de Bitcoin Core vient de proposer une idée assez maligne et drôle contre la menace quantique.
Au lieu de geler les vieux BTC, il veut piéger les voleurs.
Petit rappel du problème : un ordi quantique pourrait retrouver la clé des vieux wallets exposés, environ 7 millions de BTC. Une fois la clé en main, le voleur signe exactement comme le propriétaire. Le réseau ne ferait alors pas la différence.
La proposition de Cory Fields : pour déplacer un de ces vieux BTC il faudrait d’abord bloquer la même somme en caution pendant quelques semaines.
Pendant ce délai, le vrai propriétaire pourrait sortir une preuve qu’il a cachée à l’avance. S’il le fait, il garde ses BTC et il récupère en plus la caution du voleur.
Le voleur ne sait donc jamais si le wallet qu’il attaque est piégé. Chaque tentative peut lui coûter son propre argent.
Forcément des limites : ça ne marche que si tu as encore tes clés. Les BTC perdus et ceux de Satoshi, resteraient exposés. Et pour l’instant ce n’est qu’une proposition sur la liste de discussion des devs. Puis il faut donc avoir des bitcoins pour libérer ses propres bitcoins… bref semble compliqué mais l’angle : ajoutons un risque à l’attaquant, m’a fait rire

To me, it feels like a private decentralized message board should already exist in this world, yet it didn't until now.
This is a demonstration of something new Aztec enables - anonymous accounts are linked to small ETH deposits. Each board can define its own moderation rules, accounts that are flagged are rate-limited.

Token2049 Notes: What Matters in 2026
1. It's an exciting time for Hyperliquid ICE/NYSE confirmation! There seems to be a lot of interest from the Trump admin and WallStreet to adopt Hyperliquid. With plenty of volume coming from traditional finance, it can help boost the $HYPE flywheel. The next step might be moving into the European market and options markets.
2. @prlnet was a hot topic throughout token2049.
3. Compute is becoming a commodity. More on-chain use-cases like @USDai_Official.
4. RWA is continuing to come onto-chain for example @Ondo. Plus working towards bringing private markets onto-chain and entering into perpetuals.
5. Prediction markets are becoming a new area for algo trading. Plus institutions are getting involved and wanting to gain alpha around certain events. Not seen as gambling anymore, more an institution tool. A lot was discussed about how firms are using prediction markets. This is great news for @Polymarket, @predictdotfun, @Kalshi.
6. Although many perpetual DEXs are pushing their product, the ones that are seen as credible are @Poly_Perps, @TxFlow_L1 , @risextrade, @QFEX. These are definitely worth farming i saw a lot of alpha trader talking about them and after Token2049 they post it on X.
7. Many people went to AI events outside of crypto. Founders are focusing more on AI. This year doesn't seem as much startup focused like 2025 where many startups were still building within crypto. This year is looking more institution focused with lots of suit wearing professionals. Only the better projects will make it to 2026.
8. Institutions are looking into new ways to use crypto like Hyperliquid and USDAI. However there are less builders in this space than 2024/2025.
9. Social trading and esports trading have been increasing this year. We have seen live trading competitions and sports. I think @fomo and @legendtrade are in a good place to onboard new users with better crypto UX.
10. On chain prop firms seem to be the meta this quarter. @krakenfx, @breakoutprop, @HypernovaX, @ProprXYZ. If they keep real payouts, transparency and credibility this could be an interesting space to watch. More projects will come out later. If they are real then onchain prop firms could help solve some issues with traditional web2 prop trading.
11. Alternative assets are becoming popular. Trading card games (TCG) like @renaissxyz, @Collector_Crypt. People know what they are and use them for fun like ripping Pokemon cards let see adoption from this space.
12. Quantum computing has become more popular this year. Last year only a few people were talking about it. This year there have been more events and discussions about using it for privacy and financial use. This could be good for @NEARProtocol and @QuantusNetwork.
13. Some VCS and family offices have moved their focus to AI/data centres.
