A small breakdown to make clear how Douga (In-betweens) work. Usually, there are 3 symbols to note: ⵔ (as a Keyframe), △ (as a Breakdown aka in-betweens guide) and plain numbers (as In-betweens). The number of Keyframes and In-betweens depends on how complex the cut is so that animators can calculate and arrange them to match. Produced by Otsu Animation & Studio Questline

For this sequence, Zofia is constantly running and changing direction, which means the camera perspective shifts continuously throughout. That’s why we animating the ground to keep its perspective in sync with Zofia's movement, so her contact with the ground always feels grounded and connected to the space around her. In this cut, we use a subtle parallax effect to add depth as Neuro runs toward the cliff. There are three main layers, from front to back: Neuro (Animation) → the cliff (Book) → Background. As she reaches the cliff, the cliff layer moves slightly downward, creating the illusion of depth and making the camera movement feel more dynamic. #OtsuAnimation

Here's what the camera movement looks like in the software. This shot bridges two scenes, transitioning from Shylily's bluish world to Nyanners' purple one. The camera tilts up, pushes in toward the tiger, then pulls back out to reveal the next scene. Produced by Otsu Animation & Storygrounds

We’d love to breakdown our latest work for Glsswrks, where we follow Zofia, a combat medic, runs across the chaotic battlefield at Kraków to support her fellow soldier against the drone attack. We use dynamic camera movement constantly to sells that chaos-urgency, And we’d say that this was definitely one of our smokiest projects. Heavy 2D fog and smoke effects play a huge role in selling the atmosphere and scale of the battle. Produced by Otsu Animation & Kurosun LLC

Breakdown of a Timesheet from a Layout cut in Whispers of Taij. As we've discussed before, animator have several non-verbal ways to communicate in their workflow. One of the key tools is the timesheet (or exposure sheet), which helps specify exactly what happens in each frame. Every row represent a frame and the red line marks every 24 frames (1 second). The marks on each row let animators know what to draw and exactly when each drawing should appear. Here’s a quick guide to the main symbols: ○ Circle = keyframe. △ Triangle = breakdown, serving as a guideline for inbetweens. /  Slash = inbetween drawing. Produced by Otsu Animation & Studio Munbou

Let’s decode some of the most common animation notes down below! For hybrid teams working across the globe, these notes are a shared language that keeps everyone on the same page. They tell the next artist exactly what to fix, keep, or add, so work can move smoothly from one stage to the next. (1/2) #OtsuAnimation

How to note the camera pan/tilt in animation? The camera note work the same logic: camera move from A to B (In and Out). To illustrate the camera path on storyboard, we place an rectangular A at the starting position and the rectangular B at ending position. Below are some basic examples from our animated projects. #OtsuAnimation
