I join fellow UN experts in urging #Pakistan to halt the forced return of Afghans who may face persecution, torture or other serious human rights violations.
Afghans at risk must have a safe and accessible way to come forward, be individually assessed, and receive protection from forced return while their cases are being assessed.
🔵I am particularly concerned about women and girls, unaccompanied children, human rights defenders, journalists, former judges, prosecutors and lawyers, former security personnel and others who may face serious risks upon return.
➡️We also raise concerns about actions toward forced return of Afghan students in medical and dental institutions in Pakistan, particularly women students whose access to higher education and medical training is already severely restricted in #Afghanistan.
Respect for the principle of non-refoulement is essential: people must not be returned to situations where they face a real risk of serious human rights violations.

🔴 Day 1,823 since the Taliban stopped Afghan girls attending secondary school.
What have millions of Afghan girls done to be excluded from classrooms?
Their only crime is being born female, and it is society which suffers when women are excluded from the work force and public life.
You are not forgotten.

UNICEF calls on the de facto authorities to lift the restrictions on education and allow all girls and women to return to schools and universities immediately.

US media, citing Agence France-Presse (AFP), reported that Yasmine Praz Dessimoz, Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), says Afghanistan is gradually slipping from international attention despite the country’s widespread humanitarian needs.
Dessimoz told AFP in an interview in Kabul that Afghans are struggling to survive and urged the international community not to forget them.
She also said that due to a decline in international aid, 100 health clinics treating children suffering from malnutrition have closed across the country.
