⬇️Decrease interference ⬆️Increase automaticity The keys to removing unnecessary pressure on EFs to preserve cognitive potential for learning.
I am a big believer that we need to be intentional about helping ALL students to develop strong executive functioning skills! Executive Functions for Every Classroom (Grades 3-12) by Mitch Weathers was our Craven Early College High School staff book study in the Summer of 2024, and we have spent the past two years embedding executive functioning systems across our campus in order to help our students to thrive in both high school and college classes (and beyond). I talk about executive functions every chance that I get. Executive Functions for Every K-3 Classroom by Mitch Weathers and Dr. Sarah Oberle arrived tonight, and I have enjoyed reading how elementary schools can help provide our students will a strong EF foundation! We need to embed EF strategies that will reduce interference and increase automaticity as part of our Tier 1 instruction! Is anyone else reading K-3 version? It is SO good! #CravenEarlyCollegeWINS #nced #ExecutiveFunctioning #TarHeelTeachers #NCSEPOYNetwork #NCTOYPOY #Tier1 #CoreInstruction

It’s not often a teacher gives a talk to a room full of state and local admin. I told them on behalf of educators everywhere, I was going to make them do the most ridiculous icebreaker I could think of.

Hot Take: Executive functions are the foundation of early learning — and most classrooms aren't built to support them. Mitch Weathers and Sarah Oberle explain what K-3 teachers can do about it. 🎧 Listen to Schoolin' Around on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or hubs.la/Q04ln3R40

ICYMI, here's a sketchnote that summarizes last week's conversation with @organizedbinder and @S_Oberle on the Teachers on Fire podcast. When we build executive functions in K-3, we're investing in a stronger tier one and more support for all learners.
