The quiet achiever.
Shipped Phase B of Decent Portfolio this weekend. The frontend now joins the IPFS swarm directly where browsers pull the OrbitDB database into a local replica and read positions without going through any server. The "peer-to-peer" claim is real now: decent-portfolio.vercel.app @orbit_db Github: github.com/georgemac510/dece…

We had a lot of fun demoing @GeorgeMac510's Decent Portfolio during our last showcase. If you are building something #poweredbyorbitdb we would love to showcase it. You can reach out here, via our Matrix server, or drop us an email.

Central applications can not be trusted. Only data owned and controlled by the creator can be fully private.
German 🇩🇪 police is buying and using data from the advertising industry. This often includes location data, from which movement profiles of phones / their owners can be derived, reported by @netzpolitik_org: "We asked all 16 state data protection authorities – none gave a specific legal basis for the use of commercial location data by the police."

OrbitDB could drive the next generation of decentralized off-chain txs and micro payments. All via p2p dbs. No servers. No 3rd parties. No centralization.

Shipped Voyager replication into Decent Portfolio today, my OrbitDB-backed crypto portfolio tracker now has its database living in two places instead of one. No more single point of failure. Stack: OrbitDB + Helia + libp2p + Voyager. decent-portfolio.vercel.app/ @orbit_db

As OrbitDB evolves and matures, we are seeing a number of exciting projects under development. The p2p revolution is quietly underway...
Shipped v2 of Decent Portfolio this weekend, a crypto portfolio tracker where the database lives on @orbit_db and IPFS, not a central server. Frontend on Vercel, OrbitDB on a local server reached via Cloudflare Tunnel. Multi-asset, live PnL, no Ngrok bill. decent-portfolio.vercel.app

Here is what happens when you try and deactivate a suspended account from Twitter (X)... Be very careful of centralized applications. You DO NOT OWN THE DATA. With an OrbtDB-powered app, local first and fully peer-to-peer, you own and fully control the data.

We're seeing too much of this. Centralization is too unreliable. Users need to move their data back to their own infrastructure and distribute it through decentralized architecture.
