We had three simultaneous meetings running in @roam today. It's pretty cool because, for a remote team, it gives a sense of "things are happening." And not in an endless-messages-in-Slack type of way because async doesn't hit the same way.

Replying to @temnco
@temnco , founder of @optemization, a tech consultancy that helps companies adopt modern productivity and collaboration tools, emphasizes the importance of a strong onboarding process. He highlights 3️⃣ key strategies: Streamline Onboarding with Notion @NotionHQ helps centralize onboarding tasks and information, ensuring new hires get up to speed quickly. You can find plenty of customizable onboarding templates online to help you get started. Make Onboarding Personalized and Interactive Create a personalized onboarding page with the new hire’s name and role-specific information. This facilitates a smooth introduction to team members, tools, and expectations. Encourage Early Involvement Kickstart engagement by assigning meaningful tasks early on and pairing new hires with an onboarding buddy. This approach helps them feel connected and valued from the outset, accelerating their integration into the team.

To understand the value of an intentionally well-built and well-designed Notion workspace, draw analogies to the physical office. Unless you're in the "garage" stage of the startup, you wouldn't want your office to be disorganized and inconsistent. So, a great Notion workspace provides value in two ways: utilitarian and decorative. Utilitarian: the workspace works great. • It solves workflow problems. • Most users know how to use it. • Collaboration and productivity have improved as a result. Employees feel resourced. • Office analogy: Meeting rooms are available, have whiteboards/screens, and are easy to book and use. Decorative: the workspace looks great. • It’s on-brand and aesthetically pleasing. • Most users want to use it. • Belonging and retention have improved as a result. Employees feel cared for. • Office analogy: The furniture, plants, and coffee books are high-quality and consistent with the brand/personality. For example, this is part of an onboarding workflow that requires the user to read specific important policies, but it doesn't look dry, boring, and uninspired. In the physical office, this could look like a matte binder and high-quality pen, all branded with company colors and logo ✨

"We tried it, paid for it, but it just didn't stick" is a phrase that I hear too often when it comes to productivity/collaboration software. Especially, Notion. The thing is that buying Notion for your company is one thing; truly adopting it is another! There's an implementation problem. Successful adoption of a tool like Notion is an outcome of intentional change management. Using the tool well requires users to overcome a learning curve and get used to a different way of working with documents and data — a workflow they probably haven't changed in years! To succeed, recognize that this is not a simple change. It calls for an intelligent approach. In other words, you need to employ a methodology that helps you: 1. Evaluate the productivity/collaboration pains to solve. 2. Deploy the tool in a way that solves most of the discovered pains. 3. Maintain the setup in response to entropy, new users & iterations. TL;DR: If you're going to try a new tool, do it right to get results.

Loooong overdue, but we're launching an R&D function at @optemization. Measuring tangible outcomes in the B2B productivity/collaboration work is tough. Too often we find ourselves in the weeds of shipping client work, so we fail to zoom out and reflect on the impact.

Tem Nugmanov, CEO of @optemization, was on the podcast this week. Ironically… he cautioned Notion users on the idea of OVER-OPTIMIZING their workspaces. At LA Tech Week, some VC and founder types hit him with a question that stopped him in his tracks.
