APPRECIATION MESSAGE TO @refugeelawproj FACILITATORS
Good evening our dear facilitators,
On behalf of all interpreters, I want to say a big thank you for the 5-day interpretation training. You did not just teach us words; you taught us how to carry people's pain with respect and dignity.
You were patient, you listened to our difficult questions, you gave us real examples from the field - not just theory. Because of you, we now know that interpreting is not just changing language, it is about justice, confidentiality, neutrality, and healing.
We came with language; we are leaving with responsibility. We promise to keep the bridge strong and clean in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.
Thank you @refugeelawproj. May God bless your work.
Peter Ran
@refugeelawproj recently conducted a 5-day training of 25 refugee and host community interpreters from in and around Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. They were equipped with knowledge on legal terminology, #CRSV, #SRHR and mental health in the context of forced migration.

Today, @refugeelawproj conducted an information session in Kisenyi, Lubiri Triangle, Kampala, to raise awareness about the free services available to both refugees and host communities across our different thematic areas.
The session also provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions on how refugees and host communities can peacefully coexist and work together to build peace within their communities.
Host community members were reminded that @refugeelawproj supports both refugees and host communities and were encouraged to access the services available, including Legal Aid, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), Gender and Sexuality, Transitional Justice, and English for Adults through the Speak Your Rights Programme.
A key takeaway from the session was the need for more community dialogues in urban Kampala, where refugees and host communities live alongside one another. Such dialogues are essential to bridging existing gaps, strengthening mutual understanding, and promoting peaceful coexistence.
Building peace starts with dialogue, inclusion, and ensuring that both refugees and host communities have access to the support they need.

Panel discussions on; What commitments can young Peace Fellows and cultures make towards contributing to the fight against hate speech and promote peace and social cohesion, among the peoples of the Great Lakes region
The highlight for the Ugandan Peace Fellows was the visit to the Gisenyi Mass Grave Site (Commune Rouge) after the dialogue, where they commemorated the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 that was a clear effect of misinformation and hate speech.

What do misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech have to do with peacebuilding?
In the Great Lakes Region of Africa, the information we create, share, and consume can either strengthen understanding or deepen existing divisions.
In a region where communities continue to navigate the effects of conflict, displacement, and division, harmful narratives can undermine trust and social cohesion. So, how can we become more responsible consumers and creators of information and use our voices to advance peace, dialogue, and reconciliation across the Great Lakes Region?
Join us for the twitterthon, as we engage young people on this important topic. Through this engagement, we hope to unpack the issues of misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech and explore their implications for peacebuilding, not only in the Great Lakes Region but also around the world.
This is a build up to the upcoming National Peace Leadership Conference: ‘Youth against Misinformation, Disinformation and Hate Speech’ in Kampala on 30th September 2026 that is intended to strengthen youth leadership on topical issues while creating awareness and stakeholder collaboration in preventing misinformation, dis-information and hate speech towards promoting social cohesion and peace both online and offline.

Paralegals are often among the first points of contact for individuals experiencing rights violations, family disputes, violence, discrimination and other protection concerns in the refugee hosting areas.
They play a critical role in connecting communities with formal justice institutions, legal aid providers and other relevant service providers. Paralegals are therefore very vital and such this training is important for them to improve their service delivery.
@refugeelawproj conducted a two-day @NLinUganda funded training of paralegals from refugee-host communities of Mungula I & II, Maaji settlements and Aliwara and Orungwa host communities on refugee rights and protection.

Prosecutors and Attorneys are very key in the administration of justice to refugees and hosts communities. In spite of this, some prosecutors lack the requisite knowledge and skills on Refugee Rights and Protection.
Ugandan undergraduate law schools do not teach refugee law as a requirement for the Law course, in spite of Uganda’s position as the largest refugee hosting country in Africa. The existence of these factors, among many others, greatly hampers access to justice for forced migrants.
With funding support from the @NLinUganda, @refugeelawproj conducted a two-day training on Refugee Rights and Protection in Kampala. This training aimed at equipping them with knowledge and skills to effectively respond to complex refugee issues. #forcedmigration #justiceforsurvivors #RefugeeRightsandProtection #capacitybuilding
