Only in India is Jugaad an interminable part of our lives. My debit card stopped swiping at the grocery store and then the medical store despite numerous attempts. So, I went to the bank and complained. The manager looked at the card to check for damage, then muttered “no damage.” Then he smiled wisely and shook his head sideways like had discovered the secret formula to life. He called the sweeper, “aaho bai, Colin dya.” Then he sprayed a little Colin on his hanky, vigorously rubbed it on the RFID chip of the card, and announced confidently “it’ll work now.” And it did.
