A recommendation from someone who finds everything amazing is worthless. Your willingness to actually dislike something is what makes your taste valuable.

The older I get, the clearer this gets:
Traditionalist conservatism is grounded in gratitude - towards our ancestors, our parents, & our civilization.
'Progressive Leftism' is grounded in ingratitude.
Gratitude is a cornerstone of the Jewish and Christian faiths. It's also the defining ideal of Anglo-American conservatism.
America was founded as an ecumenical biblical nation, so our national holiday is a day of gratitude.

It's clear that @neiltyson is just a dollar-store Carl Sagan.
Here's how Sagan spoke about colonizing Mars. He echoed @elonmusk's rationale for avoiding extinction, and spoke to our deep need as humans to be wanderers.
RIP Carl, you absolute legend. ✨

The banana isn't the point.
The collector paying $6.2 million for a banana taped to a wall isn't paying for a banana.
They're paying $6.2 million as a credible signal of their Openness, their 'sophistication', and their conspicuous contempt for traditional beauty, aesthetic taste, the history of human art, & human nature itself.
(This has been the signaling function of Conceptual Art ever since the 1960s).
All of which, to a certain kind of nouveau riche misanthrope, is priceless.
