We’ve built at @daletlabs a framework for automatic media generation based on user interactions. We generate content -> you interact with it -> we generate new content based on these signals. This allows us to close a personalization loop, with content literally made for you. We call it Collaborative Generation.

Impressive zero shot capabilities, congrats @j0nathanj and team!
We just did the largest live deployment of interactive robots in history. Users online could ask the robot to do things it was never taught to do. A true foundation model, with 0 task-specific data and 0 task fine tuning. 1/10

Update: I’ve recently left Runway to start a new company! GenAI transformed how we create, but not how we experience what’s created. It’s time to rethink how we interact with intelligence. We’ve just closed a seed round with amazing top-tier investors. If you’re excited building what comes next, let’s chat.

Conway's Law of AI: AI models and AI products are constrained to produce outputs that reflect the organizational structure, incentives, worldview and culture of the companies that build them. That why when you see a new model or AI product you kind of immediately tell who built it.

Being able to produce something this cinematic end-to-end on a laptop for the price of an Uber ride is insane
It's crazy what you can do in 2 hours with $100.

Runway Aleph is a new way to edit, transform and generate video. Its ability to perform a wide range of generalized tasks means it can reimagine ordinary footage in endless new ways. Allowing you to turn images and videos you already have into anything you want. See below for a quick breakdown on how Aleph can effortlessly remove the subject from these scenes, just by asking it to.

I think one of the most important parts of working on foundation models is conviction. Once you truly believe something should work, it usually does. A great example is text-to-video: the biggest insight (credit to Sora) was that simply training video models properly at scale makes them work. The best part? We’re just as convinced about the next leap
I found an internal presentation from 2018 that could've been made yesterday. This was by far the hardest time to build Runway. No one really cared about or believed in what generative models could do for art and media. We were describing a future that didn't make sense to anyone yet. Still, that was perhaps one of the most interesting times, because you had to build this internal conviction to keep working steadily and painfully toward making it happen. And in that process, when no one is watching, you learn the most about how to do everything.

Runway Aleph can precisely replace, retexture or entirely reimagine specific parts of a video, making it possible to rapidly ideate and iterate new concepts with existing footage. All you need to do is tell Aleph what you want.

Might look like a dumb comparison, but it’s actually a perfect example of why ChatGPT dominates the consumer use case. Nobody cares about irrelevant benchmarks, and it feels like no one’s even trying to compete.
