Winning the hosting rights for the 2028 ITTF Table Tennis Championships and the 2027 Africa Para Table Tennis Championships is another major milestone for Nigerian sports. At the African Table Tennis Federation AGM in Morocco, Nigeria secured the 2028 hosting rights with 23 votes, defeating Tunisia, which polled 15. This is a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s growing capacity to host major international sporting competitions. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT Renewed Hope mandate, our vision is to reposition Nigeria as a leading sports destination. Through RHINSE, we are deliberately shifting from simply consuming sports to producing sports by hosting major competitions, creating economic opportunities and contributing to national development. Together with Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko @ShehuDikko, we remain committed to building a sports economy that attracts global attention, investment and partnerships. We will deliver a world-class championship that sets a benchmark for future competitions in Africa. Nigeria is ready to welcome the world. The future of Nigerian sports is about creating a sporting economic culture and destination the world comes to.

The journey to LA28 has begun, and Nigeria is already taking the necessary steps. In Los Angeles, I joined global Olympic stakeholders alongside the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel, for the pre-Games meeting ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. For me, this is about more than attending a meeting. It is about positioning Team Nigeria for success through early planning, strategic coordination and deliberate preparation. As I have always maintained, preparations for the Olympics cannot begin when athletes arrive at the competition venue. We must start early, learn from previous experiences and ensure our athletes have the support, facilities and competitive opportunities they need to excel. Our ambition is clear: Nigeria must go to LA28 not just to participate, but to compete with distinction. The NSC, working hand in hand with the Nigeria Olympic Committee, we are committed to building a coordinated pathway that puts athlete performance at the centre of our preparations. Los Angeles will host the Games from July 14 to 30, 2028, and the work towards that moment has already begun. The goal is to give Team Nigeria the best possible platform to represent our nation with pride. 🇳🇬
